The doors opened to reveal Ginerva Weasley, looking beautiful in her white dress. I stand next to Weasley, my suit feeling perfectly tight, perhaps I'll find a shag at the reception.
I turn to look at Harry for the first time. I'd walked down the aisle with Luna Lovegood on my arm and I made sure to keep my eyes looking anywhere but at Harry. I let them settle on Longbottom instead. He had walked down the aisle with Cho Chang and I couldn't help but wonder if she felt the same way I did.
No. She didn't.
She and Harry had a teenage fling. Harry and I thought about marriage.
She wasn't as heartbroken as I was.
I tuned out the world for a minute, replacing Ginerva with me. Did I wonder if Harry, even for a second, pictured me in her position instead? Me wearing white dress robes, walking next to my mother as tears blurred my vision. Would he cry?
During a chat with Ginny I had earlier, I knew she didn't really want to marry Harry. She wanted Luna. I asked her why she'd marry Harry if she wanted Luna. Her response was that everything would be more simple.
Like hell, it would.
This wasn't simple. Making an unbreakable vow to spend the rest of your life with someone you didn't want to was not simple.
And anyone who said it was bullshitting you.
Ginny tried her best to put up a smile, her dad at her side, arms intertwined.
I thought about back when I lost Harry.
flashback start
"SO HELP ME GOD, IF YOU WALK INTO THAT FIRE-" I screamed, running after my boyfriend as he made his way to the floo. He turned around, grabbing my hands with his own. I was frantic, but the look on his face made everything better.
"I'll be back in a week, I promise. I won't be gone long at all," He said. I shook my head.
He sighed and kissed me before backing away, grabbing his duffel bag off the floor. I stalked over to him, trying to hold him back. He shook me off.
"I told you that my job calls sometimes, amour," he said, still trying to be calm. He tried to cup my face but i threw his hands off.
"Yes, but you said it should be over a year before you went back onto the field, not eight bloody months!" I snapped back. He sighed and stepped into the fire. I grabbed a picture of us off the kitchen table. It was a muggle picture that Hermione had snapped at Pansy's birthday party a few months back. I had smiled about something Harry said and my mouth was in a smile as his lips pressed to mine. I wondered what happened to us being so happy.
"Harry, if you go, don't expect to see me here when you get back," I said firmly. He looked up at me and just stared, before grabbing some floo powder.
"Harry-"
"I love you, amour," He said. I let out another scream, this time of absolute terror as I watched him whisk away in a swirl of green flames, throwing the picture onto the floor as hard as I could, sobbing into a mess on the floor.
I didn't lie. 30 minutes later, I was out the door, no trace of me ever being at Harry's flat besides my smell on his sheets and the broken picture that lie in front of the fireplace.
flashback end
Ginny looked almost miserable as she and Harry interlocked their hands, getting into position to make an unbreakable vow.
"Before we begin, does anyone have any objections," I stared at the ground helplessly. Sure, I could make an objection but I was not a homewrecker. I'd just go back to the Manor and pick up Scorpius, the son Harry didn't know we had, and bring him home to our flat. I'd let him tire himself out then give him a nap as I made dinner.
