"Yes, Mom," Juliet nodded, using her shoulder to hold her phone against her ear as she folded a shirt and tossed it into a suitcase.

"I'm just making sure," her mother's voice came from the phone, "I know how you like to go overboard sometimes, and you don't need to. We have everything you need here already. Caroline and I even got your old room ready." Juliet sighed, closing her suitcase and zipping it up. "Yes, I heard you the first time. Just the essentials, such as, but not limited to, pictures of friends and family, gifts from friends and family, basically anything that cannot be replaced." A sarcastic snort came from the end of the phone.

"Okay, okay. Give your dad my best. Love you, Jule." The phone call ended and Juliet tossed her phone on her bed with a sigh. Her eyes scanned her room. She'd lived in it, unchanging, since middle school. Its light pink walls radiated "comfortable", "safe", and unfortunately "boring". She'd gone through her room and picked out anything she needed to bring, and finally, she was done packing. As she did one last sweep of her room, she allowed herself to admit how much she would miss her home.

"Juliet, if you don't hurry, you're going to miss the plane!" Juliet's dad called from the other room. She rushed to grab her suitcase, and after an overwhelming goodbye with her father and his boyfriend, she boarded a plane headed for Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Juliet arrived at her mom and sister's house not too long after landing. As she stood in front of the house that she hadn't returned to in years, she wondered how long it would take for it to feel like home again.

"Juliet! Oh my God!" Juliet barely had a chance to process what was happening before she felt a pair of arms wrapping around and squeezing her tightly. "I missed you too, Caroline." She hugged her sister back, just as tightly, a smile on her face.

"Caroline, could you at least let her get inside first?" Her mom joked, appearing in the doorway. Caroline pulled out of the hug, giving her mom a sarcastic glare over her shoulder. Juliet followed her sister inside, hugging her mom, and then allowing Caroline to show her to her room. As promised, the room had been made ready for her. Complete with a closet full of new clothes, and a bathroom that connected with Caroline's room.

"So, do you like it?" Caroline's excitement seeped into her voice as she gestured around the room. Unlike her room at her dad's house, this room looked like it belonged to a young adult, and not a child. Juliet nodded as she dropped her suitcase on her bed. "It looks amazing. I love it. Thank you, Care." Juliet caught a glimpse of Caroline's proud expression as she got a closer look at the room. Her bed was made with a fluffy gray blanket, and a large black pillow. Against one wall was a bookshelf, full of books that she couldn't wait to read, and trinkets that she'd never seen before. Against the wall across from her bed, there was a dresser, with a TV on top. Behind that, on the wall, were some Polaroid pictures of her family before her parents had gotten divorced. One of them stood out to her; a picture of her being held by a woman that she only recognized from this picture, yet who she knew was her biological mother since her mom had never hidden her adoption. She had been two years old when she was adopted. According to her mom, no one knew what happened to her birth parents, she'd just shown up at Liz's (mom) and Bill's (dad) doorstep one day, 3 months after they'd had Caroline. Despite having no information, they adopted her and raised her as their own. Growing up, it was clear by her dark brown hair, and golden eyes, that she was adopted, but her family never treated her as if she wasn't theirs.

"You don't have to keep those up if you don't want to." Juliet drew her eyes away from the picture and glanced over at Caroline.

"Oh, don't be silly. It looks great, all of it." Caroline glanced around one last time, taking in her work. "You're right. I outdid myself." Juliet shook her head a little and laughed.

"I'm going to take a quick shower; long flight." Caroline nodded, heading to the door. She stopped before Juliet could close the door and gave her sister another quick squeeze. "I'm so glad you're back, Jule. I've missed you like crazy." Juliet squeezed her sister back, and then she was left alone in her new room. That's when it finally hit her that she wasn't going back to her dad's and that this was her new home. Excitement bubbled up inside her, along with a little sadness, but she quickly pushed it back down, heading to her shower with a smile on her face.

After Juliet's shower, she unpacked a little, then headed to the kitchen for dinner.

"Caroline! What if she'd seen you?!" Juliet stopped in her tracks when she heard her mother's angry voice. She quickly got out of view and listened in.

"She didn't, Mom. I promise." Caroline's voice was serious, and Juliet couldn't help but be nervous. "Look, Care, now that Juliet is here, you have to be more careful," her mom pushed, "I don't want her to know about this." No one spoke for a moment, and all Juliet could do was stand in silence, wondering what the hell she'd overheard.

"I'll tell Jule that dinner's ready," Caroline's voice came, followed by footsteps. Juliet quickly pretended that she was just entering the room, forcing a smile on her face.

"Something smells good. What're we having?" She asked, glancing over at the table to see the makings for spaghetti. "My favorite." She piped up, her smile becoming more genuine as she took her seat. 'I'm sure if it was really important, they'd tell me, right?' She thought to herself, glad to be home, despite the nerves that she just couldn't get rid of, even as dinner progressed, finished, and she went back to her room to prepare for bed, the conversation still lingering on her mind.
