Calum

Since Melody kissed my cheek earlier tonight I feel happier.

"Cal, come here buddy!" A very drunk Michael stumbles into the kitchen where I was serving myself a glass of water. I've been drinking too much.

"Come Cal, we're gonna play spin the bottle." Oh no, this is a bad idea.

"Mike, where is Melody?" I hope she's not playing that. Michael laughed and walked out of the kitchen to the living room.

"Michael!" I put my glass of water down on the marble countertop and follow him. I ask him again. "I dunno. She went out for a walk with some guy claiming to be her brother." Shoot! Jonathan's home. But why? He told her that he couldn't make it 'till after her birthday.

Before I notice, I'm out the front door. I can hear yelling at the end of the street, near my house. I walk in that direction and the yelling gets louder. In the dim light pouring out of the street post I can make out Jonathan's face and Melody's back is facing me.

"Melody, you're drunk! What would mom and dad do if they found out?" He says disappointed. "So what? You can't do anything about it. They don't need to know. Remember all those times you asked me to cover for you? You will do this for your baby sister." Jonathan looks at her. "Fine! I won't tell on you but you better make it up to me." He smiles. "Now, come give your big brother a hug." Melody squeals and hugs him.

I smile at this and go back inside. When I reach the living room, Ashton is sound asleep or passed out on the couch, Michael kissing some random chick and Luke was making body shots. Music blared and people started dancing. My phone starts vibrating in my pocket. I take it out and I go outside at the sight of the caller ID. It was Melody's father but why would he be calling me? Why wouldn't he be calling?

I go out the back door and walk as far as I can from the noise. Luckily, the backyard is extensive. When no music could be heard, I answered.

"Hey, Sam" I tried to sound casual, I'm still a little bit tipsy.

"Hey Cal, I've been trying Melody's phone. Is she with you?" I have never lied to him. "Yeah, we're at the house, she's taking a bath. We were at the beach." I feel bad for lying to him, but most of it is true. We are at the house and we were at the beach earlier.

"Oh, that explains it. Well, tell her to give us a call." Sam said. "Sure thing Sam." I assured him and the line went dead.

That was a close one. I run back to the house in search for Melody. I search downstairs and stumble with Jonathan. "Calum! Just the man I wanted to see." He grabbed my arm and took me to the kitchen.

"Hey Nathan! Long time, no see." I gave him a big hug. "Listen, Sam just called. I have to go get Melody." He nodded understandingly. "I'll get rid of the people before the cops come." He said.

I run upstairs and reach her bedroom door. I hear giggling from inside the room. I open the door to find Melody sitting in some guy's lap.

"Hey, knock much?" Said the guy. "Oh shoot, Calum!" Melody said and got down from the guy's lap.

I am filled with blinding rage and before I know it my fist connects with his jaw again and again.

Melody's cheeks are tear-stained and Jonathan has to pry me away from the guy. "Hey! Calum, stop it!" Jonathan and Melody pick up the guy and take him downstairs.

My eyes widen as I realize what just happened. I look down at my fist, blood oozing of  my split knuckles. My shirt is soaked in sweat and blood. I can't tell if its mine or his.

I walk into the bathroom and lock myself in. I can't believe I just did that. I look at my reflection in the small mirror hanging over the sink. Empty eyes are staring back at me.

"What is wrong with me?" I punch the mirror and it breaks in tiny pieces. I sit down in the shower and start crying silently, blood

The doorknob rattles and someone knocks lightly. "Calum, open the door please." I recognize his voice, it was Ashton. I crawl to the door and unlock it, I sit back and wait for Ash to enter.

"Wanna talk about it?" He says and sits on the toilet.

Melody

After Nathan and I went back to the house, Charlotte introduced me to her cousin. Since I was slightly buzzed, he looked very hot. I try and make small talk. "So, Connor, what do you like to do?" I ask him while twirling a strand of my hair. He licked his lips.

"Well, I'd like to do you." At least I know he's not shy. "Is that so?" I raise an eyebrow at him, challenging him.

"Let's see what we can do about that." I smile and head towards the stairs. I feel Connor's hand on mine. "Wait up, babe."

At the top of the landing, he grabs me by the waist and kisses me hard. It was very hot and intense. "Wait, let's go to my room."

When we reach my room, I push him onto my bed and he sits straight. I stand in front of him and he pulls me towards him. I sit on his lap and continue making out. "It's just sex Melody." I thought. His lips start trailing around my neck and I start giggling.

I hear the door open, I thought I had locked it. "Hey, knock much?" Connor says and I turn around to see a very mad Calum.

"OH shoot, Calum!" I jumped out of Connor's lap. Nothing comes out of my mouth and before I know it Calum is beating Connor.

I can't hear myself screaming for him to stop and my cheeks are soaked in tears. Jonathan had to pry Calum away from him. I help Connor up with Jonathan and take him downstairs.

"Connor, I'm really sorry. I thought I had locked the door." I try apologizing but I feel really bad. "Well, you didn't!"

Jonathan steps up. "Hey! You don't get to talk to my sister that way. So, walk it off." Connor storms off the now empty house.

"Where's everyone?" I ask, kicking an empty soda can. "Party's over, Mel. I sent them home." Jonathan tells me.

"What, why did you do that?" I ask angry. My brother starts to pick up the trash. "What were you even doing with that guy in your room, Mel?" He yells at me.

"Just today you turned 17. 17! What the hell were you thinking?" He threw a liquor bottle across the room.

"Me? I'm sorry, I wasn't the one who got a girl knocked up at 16! And what the hell was Calum doing up there?" I shout at him. Jonathan's eyes water. I've clearly hurt him.

"Wow, Melody. You had to go there!" He looks at me with a scowl.

My hands go to my mouth, regretting everything I just said. "Nathan, I'm so so sorry. I didn't mean what I said. I am clearly drunk."

"I don't care Melody! I should've stayed home. Happy fucking birthday!"He storms out of the house and slams the door shut.

I am left alone in the empty house on my birthday. After I finish cleaning the rest of the house,I go to the kitchen and take a cupcake out of the fridge. Rummaging through the drawers, I find a birthday candle. I stick it in the cupcake and light it up.

"Happy birthday to me."I sing softly before bursting out in tears.
