I walked into the new school, afraid of what I might see or hear. My twin brother, Brennan, followed behind me. At least he could still be cocky about it. I was scared shitless.
Before I go into anything, I guess I should explain my whole life story, right? No? Good because I wasn't going to anyway.
All you need to know is my name is Samantha Evans. I'm a freshman in high school and I don't have any friends.
When I wanted to become serious about playing football last year, all my so-called "friends" that were on the cheerleading squad just dropped me like I was a hot potato. So now, my only best friend is my insanely annoying brother, Brennan Evans.
"Sammie, you've gotta loosen up. Look, I'm okay, right, so you're okay. Come on. Your nerves are making me insane," he said as he pushed my shoulder towards our homeroom. I sighed. Again, have I mentioned he's annoying?
I walked in and sat next to my brother. As soon as I sat down, I wanted to leave. What would people think of me when I told them I wanted to try out for the football position of quarterback? Oh yeah, they'd all laugh in my face. That's what I expect anyway. Because girls don't play football, right? Wrong. I've wanted to play on the high school team for years. So I'm not gonna back out of trying just because people laugh at me and tell me I'm not good enough. What I say to them is "Watch me."
The teacher walked into the room and tried to get the class's attention.
"Good luck," I muttered to myself, crossing my arms and staring straight ahead.
"Don't be like that, sis. Be happy!" Brennan said. I glared at him and he shut up.
He had a swarm of girls all over him. I rolled my eyes. Why did my brother have to be popular? Okay, he's got looks, but beyond that, he's your typical jock.
Someone slipped into the seat next to me. I peeked at him through my hair and rolled my eyes. He looked at me. "Hi," he said, holding out his hand. I looked at it.
"Hi yourself," I said coldly, averting my eyes from his hand.
He made a fist and then pulled it away. "Not the friendly type," he said.
"No, so shut it or I'll shut it for you," I growled.
"We'd both love that," he said, smirking. "Jake Anderson. You?" He asked.
"Sam Evans," was my reply. He nodded his head. The bell rang, indicating it was time to go to first period. I was the first one out the door.
I walked into my first period class, Biology. Following me was Jake Anderson and my brother. "You two are stalking me," I said, looking at my brother.
Jake looked at me, mock hurt in his eyes. "Am I chopped liver?" He asked
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah because you're just like other guys, so do me a favor and don't talk to me. It'll only end badly."
Brennan laughed. "She's not usually this cold. It must be the day," he whispered to Jake. Jake's eyes widened in understanding. "Oh, I understand."
I threw my notebook at Brennan and he caught it. "No throwing books, Sam, or I'll tell," he said with a smirk. He handed it back to me and I rolled my eyes for what seemed like the 50th time that day and sat in the back of the room.
Jake followed me, sitting next to me where the lab partner was supposed ro sit. Brennan stayed where he was. "What do you want?" She asked coldly.
"Damn, Evans. All I want is a seat. You're just a bag of ice, aren't you?" He asked, leaning back on his chair, making the front legs lift off the ground.
