This world is very much like ours but the Soulmate Concept is the absolute law. No one can come between two soulmates. The gods designed a system where a person can summon their soulmate for a short amount of time to either save or say farewell.
The Summoning can only happen once for each person. It's a spiritual projection that leaves your physical body unconscious while the spirit goes to the soulmate. In order to truly protect your lover the spirit appears as your physical person, meaning you can interact with your surroundings with no limitations. Almost as if you were truly there next to your soulmate.
