A year and a half later, Brittney and Ed are still together. It took Brittney some time to get used to being a zombie. At first, she was pretty hard on Ed. She does miss interacting with people, and Starr helps inform her on what she wants to know. She feels like it's pretty bad, and boring, being a zombie. She does have cravings for brains, and Ed figured out how to make food taste, and have the same consistency of brains.
"Yes, I have had a few brains, I know how it tastes, and feels when eating it." Ed said when Brittney mentioned wanting some brains. However, since they can't get their hands on many brains, they have to eat what they can find. To do that, they have to quietly go through people's, and restaurants, trash for food. When going through the trash, on many occasions, they were caught and were just confused for being homeless. They knew if they did it during the day, they would have probably been killed, and would have died; again. Brittney didn't want that to happen, she didn't want to die again, especially after being undead for such a short time.
A lot of times she wished she wasn't undead, to be fully human again. She thought it was crazy being a zombie, how you only hear about it in sci-fi books, and movies. Brittney hoped, many times, that something happened to her, and she was in a coma. That one of these days she'll wake up, and she knew it'll be a great story to tell. Maybe even good enough to write a book about it.
"I want a child. Can we have a child?" Ed asked one night when they were looking at the stars.
     "We're not even married though."
"I know. I still want a child. We should get married soon. We've been together for almost two years. There's no one out there like us." Ed said as he was sitting up, excited about what he was saying.
"Yeah, that's true. But what if there are others like us? What if there will be soon? If what happened to you, happened to others, there'll be others. And since you brought it up, my friend, Starr, is thinking about becoming one. She's still trying to decide if she really wants to, and she wants me to do it, to be the one to turn her into one of us. For the child, let's get married first, then we'll talk about children.
You already know you have to propose to me when I least expect it. Plus, where are you going to get a ring, and get one that fits?"
"I'm not sure I'm comfortable with your friend becoming one. I only turned you into one so we could be together, and to live a happy life together. If she gets turned into one, who will she want to become one also? I just don't think it's such a good idea, sorry. Anyway, I'll find a way to get a ring, you'll see. This is a good night." Ed laid back down, and they stayed there and cuddled.
"She's not like that. She wants to be with me, we're like sisters. Ya know? Have you ever been so close to someone, so close like you two were like twins or something? That's how Starr and I are. I have no one else to talk to, no one to hang out with, and Starr would make it a lot easier, and more fun, if she were one." Ed thought about it for a bit, then replied with,
"Alright, but make sure she's 100% sure about it. She better not start asking for other people to get turned. And yes, I did have someone that was like a brother to me. We were friends since kindergarten, and we had an unbreakable bond. The one thing I wish I saw ahead of time, could have saved him. One night, when we were in high school we were eighteen, I was going over to his place so we could hang out, and when I got there, I let him know I was there, and he had me go out back. So I went out there, thinking nothing of it.
As soon as I got there, the first thing I noticed was Dylan, my friend, sitting on the patio with a shotgun. I was like, 'oh hey, are we going to do some shooting practice or something?' His father didn't mind us using the gun to have some fun with, just shooting at cans. However, that night was different, he didn't have plans on shooting cans. Dylan looked at me; that's when I noticed the different look in his eyes, and he said he was sorry. I was like, 'what are you sorry for man? You didn't do anything wrong, there's nothing to apologize for.'
That's when, before I could react, he put the barrel of the gun to his right temple, then pulled the trigger. I screamed out 'no, no Dylan don't,' but it was too late. I ran over to him, his head was basically all gone, and his parents came running out, asking what happened. When they saw Dylan, they thought I did it, I don't know if they thought it was an accident or not, but I was glad they had a security camera, not like it was a good thing that they had to see him do that. Once they watched it, they saw what really went down, and apologized to me for how they acted. I was so devastated, I got so depressed that I could never get as close to anyone else. Like yeah, I talked to people and we hung out, but I just couldn't get close to another again."
Brittney would have had tears running down her face, if she could cry. She said,
"I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can't imagine how you must have felt, and how you must feel now."
"Thank you, I'm just happy I found you, and we're going to spend a lot of time together." They then fell asleep, all the while hoping no one would find them. Even if someone did, they'd probably be mistaken for the homeless again. The next morning, Ed woke up first and it took him a bit to process it being morning. He had to wake Brittney up, and in the process of getting off the ground, they looked like elderly people doing the same thing. They then made their way to their house, that way they'd be able to cuddle, and sleep more without people seeing them. It's a two story, six bedroom, house, they had one bedroom for each kid, and Ed wants one male and one female.
It has one bathroom for each bedroom, which they don't really get used, and a half bath downstairs. A lot of the stuff was left in the house, and they just take whatever people throw out, and isn't broken. Ed and Brittney had to do a lot to make sure the house blended in with the woods. Brittney was amazed with how good they did, not a single hunter or person passing by, has seen it. Ed brought her here two months after turning, and Brittney still remembers the day.
