I'm Sorry

Chloe was leaning against a rail, looking over a fountain. She was lost in thought, still trying to process the insanity that was the dinner she had just had with Lucifer and his family.

She knew it was going to be crazy, how could it not be. What she wasn't expecting was a fight breaking out, blood being drawn, tears being shed, and multiple people losing their voices from screaming.

She was alone for barely five minutes when Lucifer walked and stood next to her. Chloe looked at him before quickly looking back at the water. They stood in silence for a bit before talking.

"Detective-"
"Lucifer don't."

He nodded before looking back at the colorful water. Chloe looked pensive. Not quite sure if she was mad, sad, or maybe a bit of both. After mulling it over, she finally decided on what to say.

"Look, I get fighting with your brother, and I get being angry with your dad. They both suck, I'm not gonna lie. But I don't understand why your feelings about me are so complicated. I've seen all of you. Literally and metaphorically. I know you, know your personality, know you're a good person. And I've accepted all of it, so where is the complication?"

Chloe's voice was slightly shaking, but of frustration more than anything else. She was looking Lucifer in the eyes trying to somehow read him, but he was giving her nothing.

"Nothing? Really. Not even an 'Im sorry I don't love you.'"
"That is not true detective."
"Then why don't you say it!"

It registered that she was yelling and she felt bad. While tears were streaming down her face, she covered her mouth in realization.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled."
"I thought you didn't want to push me into anything?"
"I don't. Lucifer I really don't. But I'm trying to understand and you aren't giving me anything. So, I don't know what else I'm supposed to do."
"I see. Are you, breaking up with me?"
"What? No! No, Lucifer. Look, I've told you I love you. Multiple times. You aren't ready to say it back fine. But I'm not gonna sit here and let you pull me every which way. I have a daughter I need to get home to, so I will see you tomorrow."

Chloe turned to walk away. Lucifer looked back at her. Despite any conflict he was feeling, he knew he couldn't keep doing this to her.

"Chloe wait."

Chloe froze and looked Lucifer in the eyes. Her name still sounded so foreign in his mouth, after all he barely used it.

"I do love you. And no this isn't you forcing it out of me, because I know that's your first thought. I think I internalized this fear, that if I admitted that I love you, you would just end up leaving me. Like everyone else does. And I suppose most of it is self inflicted, but I was just trying to protect myself."

Chloe walked back over to him and stood in front, never shifting her eye contact.

"Lucifer I have told you time and time again that we're a team. I'm not going anywhere, and you thinking that is just silly."

She took his hands and stepped closer, to the point where they where maybe an inch apart.

"I love you Lucifer, and that's not going to change."
"I love you too, Chloe."

She smiled and pulled him down for a kiss. After pulling away she touched his cheek.

"See that wasn't so hard." He made 'seriously' face, "I'm kidding! But I do still have a daughter I need to go home to. So I will see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight detective."
"Goodnight Lucifer."

I do not like this chapter 😅. It was a thought in my head, and when I went to write it it just felt incomplete so i'm sorry about this being a weird chapter. Nonetheless, still check Grammar, spelling, and ideas!
