Chapter 11: The Ambush
"You're looking for him, right? The glowing man?"
My eyes widened as I heard those words from his mouth. The confusion filled my mind, then curiosity kicked in. I turned around and saw my friends' faces of disbelief.
The whole forest was in silence. It doesn't matter if it's morning if the dark errie atmosphere of the trees kept the heat and light away from us.
How did he know about that?
As he saw me, his smirk widened up to his ears. It looks like he was enjoying me getting confused about what happened, and it made me so annoyed.
"H-How–"
"Ah!"
I was about to ask him a question regarding his knowledge about the matter, when suddenly, he yelled with joy. His smirk was never gone and after that loud noise he made, he instantly disappeared, becoming one with the shadows.
"There she is!" One can still hear his echo, traveling around our position. We tried to caught him with our eye in each direction, but to no avail.
Unsure where he would be gone, we decided to step back until our backs finally met.
"The guardian who never became one!" Then, his voice appeared once more, but it wasn't an echo anymore. It was the real deal.
I turned around to see him standing beside Befanny, with smile wider than before. She lowered her head and clenched her fist, got hit by those words like bullets.
I couldn't help but to be saddened for her, since we just talked about it earlier. She had never been considered as a guardian at all, but she doesn't need a thousand people to tell her that.
"It's been a pleasure to meet you for a while, Befanny." He said, enjoying his mock towards her, who doesn't have a choice but to accept every word he spit.
His hand tried to reach for her shoulder, but I approached them in a rush and stopped it from going further.
"Don't touch her!" I yelled as I gave him deadly glares at what he attempted to do.
The whole atmosphere became heavier than before as we exchanged glances. I don't know but for some reason, I started to become overprotective.
"Listen!" Bunny interrupted the intense exchange of glances. Pitch turned around his attention to him, disappearing in front of us once again and went towards the new challenger. "No matter how many times you'll rise, we'll stop you!"
"Aww... that's some cute little speech you have there." He mocked, which made the latter more frustrated. It seemed that he really doesn't know when to shut his mouth. "But you know that there's a catch this time."
"This time, I'm not alone anymore." He said in a low voice, but loud enough for us to hear it. After saying it, he immediately disappeared once more into the dark, leaving us behind with his minions.
The nightmares horses, fearlings, and the mythical creatures that went into his side, started marching towards us, ready with their weapons. We also grabbed ours as they became closer.
We never showed fear over them, or else, we'll be at the disadvantage. If they smelled fear, they'll start to become stronger than ever.
Some of the nightmare horses started galloping to my direction. As they were about to attack me with their black sand, I jumped in my position and aimed my wooden staff to them.
A flair of frosted ice came out from my staff and hit one of the horses. The horse screamed as it became a frozen black sand, sticking in the ground like it was a part of it, dead and cold.
More horses went into my aid but I still continued to strike them with my weapon. In just a short time, they were already been defeated. I'd already dealt with them years before, so this is no big deal.
"Jack!"
Suddenly, a familiar voice called my name beside me, so I turned around to see where it came from. Then, there, I saw Befanny standing in front of me, terror can be read in her face, like she just saw her nightmares through me. Cold sweat started dripping from her head.
At first, I didn't know why she would give me that expression, like I was the bad guy this whole time, but all of a sudden, something reached for my neck. It was large, wet, and scaly, like that of a body of a snake.
Its grasp over my neck tightened every time, and every time, I kept choking and begging for air. Confusion filled my mind as I couldn't be able to know what was happening to me.
"Jack!" Befanny screamed once more, as I saw her frightened face with my blurry vision.
"Look at me, young lad." A seductive young lady started whispering in my ears, like she was trying to hypnotize me with her sweet voice. But I fought off her temptation and closed my eyes immediately, having a hint of who was in front of me.
"If you look at her, you'll literally freeze to death."
I remembered Bunny's advice about Medusa, and followed it without any hesitation. I started to hear slithering and wrattling of the snakes and it was going closer as the time passed by.
My heart started pounding and I felt my sweat crawling through my cheeks. I know that I'll run out of breath after a while, but I convinced myself to calm down. My staff was still in my hands, so I tighten my grasp of it.
I have to think of a way on how to escape from this situation. If only I knew where her eyes was, then I could attack it with my cold flair.
"I said look at me!" The once gracious attitude was now becoming more distorted and pushy, like a banshee that was screaming for someone's death.
"Ack!"
At the same time, the slimy body of the snake coiled even tighter from my neck, causing me to run out of air faster than before. I couldn't help but to raise my head and looked at the covered sunlight.
"Jack!"
My friends continued to shout, but it faded away slowly as I started to get sleepy. If only there would be some way to check my aim.
Then, I saw a figure ran towards the front of me in a flash, so fast that I didn't notice that they were running.
Out of curiosity, I lowered my head and looked at their lower features. As soon as I saw the gray fur wrapped in their body and the white furball as their tail, there's no doubt that they are what I think they are.
It was Bunny.
A hint of joy skipped my heart, thinking that he would go this far to help me, but as soon as I saw his whole face started to transform from soft and fluffy into a hard rock, my heart dropped in an instant.
A/N:
Once again, hi!
I have a very important and sad announcement. If you're reading my HXH fanfic, you might already know. I got busy on my novel and I can't unless I pause my two fanfics.
So yeah, I'm going for about a month hiatus starting right now, and I'll come back on October 17. I hope this is okay for you guys. I'm very sorry. :(
I tried to write three books at the same time but I really just couldn't. So I'll focus on the other until I have enough chapters for it. Then come back here to post a few.
Okay, that's all! Really sorry. I wanted to write this fanfic because of my new ideas but I got too busy. See you on October 17!
