17 January, 1960.
United States of America, New York City.I walked through the city for what felt like minutes, but what must have been hours, as Emma was starting to get increasingly impatient... This had been her idea for fucks sake! Why was she complaining?!
Well, she may be a bit right... But I can't help myself! This city is so different from anything I have ever seen before... It is so beautiful! Even though I only understood the purpose of half the things I saw, I was still taken in by the sight of an otherworldly planet... And there were so many people! There were more people here than I had ever seen before! How did they even feed so many people?!
"Are you gonna act like a tourist the entire day?" Emma asked in an irritated tone. "You were the one who proposed I would go and see the city before planning my speech... So don't complain." I was so bewitched by the sights of the city, that I did not even get that irritated with Emma!
"Yes, but I meant an hour, maybe two. It has been five hours!" She said, not at all hiding her irritation... She then repeated herself to make a point. "You have been walking around for five hours!" She said. I suddenly noticed that the sun was starting to go down... Only now did I realize that I was actually quite hungry... What kind of food did they eat here anyway? It was one of the many things Lady Liberty hadn't given me full information about.
"Hey, could we go eat somewhere?" I asked as I turned around to Emma. She just raised an eyebrow as she crossed her arm: "And how will you pay for that? Last time I checked you're broke." She is going to pay for my campaign, but not to get me some food?! "Aren't you a millionaire?!" I responded in surprise. "I am." She said calmly, as she approached me: "But why should I pay for your food?" She asked as she looked coldly at me: "So I don't starve?! How will I become president if I starve?!" She looked at me for a few seconds, before speaking up: "I'll buy you food, but then you will have to listen to me instead of doing whatever you like."
Was she going to use food to force me to listen to her?! Who is the future president here, me or her?! ...But I am not really in any position to decline her offer... "...Fine... I will listen to you..." I said. She gave a smug victory smile: "Perfect. Then follow me." She said as she walked past me... What have I gotten myself into? Then i realized... What HAVE I gotten myself into? Would I really be able to become president of this nation? As I followed Emma, I couldn't get these thoughts out of my head...
30 October, 1962.
Republic of Cuba, somewhere near Havana.I kept running as I heard the gunshots behind me. I got around the corner, some of the bullets coming so close I felt the air move past me... But I got out unscathed... Thank god... With my father gone, I had to be the one taking care of my mother... Although I wanted to cry, I had to suppress it. I had to escape, crying could come later.
I eventually saw my home in the distance... As I ran towards it, I noticed the dog from earlier was following me... For some reason, I allowed him to do so. I got into the house... "Mother!" I shouted as I entered... My mother was in the livingroom, still waiting for me... As soon as she saw the rifle in my hand, she knew what had happened.
"We have to go!" I shouted... I knew she was as overwhelmed as I was... But the longer we stayed here, the lesser the chances we were getting out... If only father had listened! Before my mother even responded, I grabbed her arm and ran out... Luckily she did not resist, and came with me... She already had the bag with much needed supplies with her... But so much else was left behind.
As I ran through the backdoor, into the jungles that surrounded the village, I wondered if I would ever come back to my home ever again.
