How long had it been since that day? Days, months maybe. It doesn't matter anymore. He had gotten to the point where he didn't care about anything anymore; just living another day in the woods, doing daily chores and repeating the same thing the next day. It was better that way.
The man put these thoughts aside, despite the strong sense of restlessness and nostalgia that surrounded him that day. He took a piece of bread and gave it to the huge black wolf that was standing next to him.
-Today we must go to the southern part of the forest, Innana. There are some animals that need help- he said as he stroked her faithful friend's head. He was trying to concentrate on that despite the strange feeling he had. Again, he shook those thoughts out of his mind, took the necessary things and went out. When he arrived at his destination, he began to collect some medicinal herbs and to interact with the local animals.
Everything stopped when he heard a scream behind his back. He tensed up and became nervous. He didn't used to interact with many people. He usually only talked a little bit with the people in town, who just gave him the products he bought. He slowly turned around and found a small boy with curly hair and clothes full of dirt and several holes. The little boy looked at him with a pair of big purple eyes that left the tallest one frozen.
-Hello sir-
Muriel just looked at him in surprise.
- Can you hear me?
-My name is Naim. What's yours?
-Mu...Muriel- managed to answer with a voice thread.
-What a nice name. What does it mean?
-I don't... I don't know. - Haven't he had that conversation before?
-My dad says mine is something about tranquility or candy. I like candy. My mom's are very good, but the market's are the best, but the tr...
-What do you do in the forest? -It's not safe for you to be alone. Where are your parents? - he asked.
-I don't know.- replied the boy. -My mom told me not to leave her side, but I saw a huge bug and I got scared and then I ran and my mom called me, but I fell down a hill and I saw your wolf and then you and I though....t-
-It's okay. I understand- Muriel interrupted again - That's enough. You talk a lot. -
-You don't
-...-
The little boy grimaced, approached Inanna and she greeted him cheerfully.
-You are hurt- the man said.
-Eh?
-Your arm.
- Ah! It doesn't hurt. - said the little one, but Muriel took it to examine it and the little one could hardly stand the tears. He was playing the strong one, just like her. Muriel's heart shrank. They looked so much alike.
-I will heal you. Stay still. - he said as he pulled out various herbs and things he had in his bag.
The little one continued to talk non-stop, while Muriel cured him and simply nodded or grunted at his questions.
-Why do you live in the forest? - Naim continued.
-I like it.
-But you are alone.
-I'm fine like this.
-But you have no one to play with.
-I have Inanna.
