Violet's POV

The sun was up, I turned over to Tate's face. We were both still naked from last night, but I didn't mind. He looked so happy, so peaceful. I quietly got up, trying not to wake him. I threw around clothes that sat in an old cardboard box looking for something suitable to wear.
" You're so beautiful." Tate said groggily, as I quickly slipped on a strapless floral dress.
" I'm going downstairs." I muttered throwing on my maroon cardigan.
He just smiled and nudged his face back into the pillow.
The kitchen smelled of fresh coffee,
Vivian stood behind the counter cradling Jeffery in her arms.
I felt bad for Jeff, not speaking or walking, being a newborn forever.
My mother looked surprised when I entered the room.
She spilled some bullshit about how I'm distant.
" Coffee? " She offered, " Carol left half a pot."
"Carol?"
" Oh the new family, your father and I have decided that we were not going to scare them off, we need the house to be occupied for a while." She said, pouring me a steaming mug.
" Could I have two?" I asked, not knowing that I had unintentionally brought up an unwanted conversation.
" Two? " She questioned, " are you and him talk-"
I cut her off. " Why did you forgive dad?" I asked, " He did things to hurt you but you still stayed."
" Is this about Tate?" She asked slightly upset.
" Your father and I love each other, Violet. Very much. " She said as if she was thinking of what to say to not sound like a hypocrite, " And I know it must be very hard having Tate in the house all the time but, you need to remind yourself of who he really is Violet. What he did to us."
" We'll just share this one." I said coldly walking back to the attic mug in hand.

Tate's POV

I heard her light footsteps trailing off to the floors below. I raised my head up, scratching my eyes with the palms of my hands.
" Huh, I thought she'd never leave."
The coarse voice echoed from a corner of the attic.
" You know we used to be friends Tate. It was you and me against this pissy excuse for a world, but when she let you back in, well, you abandoned me. " the voice continued.
She slowly walked out of the shadows, taking time with each placement of her foot.
" How is that supposed to make me feel?!" She asked angrily.
I stumbled for words to say, but Hayden smirked and continued.
" Well... " she said automatically changing her upset tone to a happy-go-lucky one.
" We could always pick up where we left off..." She snaked her body onto the bed wrapping her hands around my thighs.
" Get off!!"
I shoved her off of me forcefully, she stumbled but quickly regained her stance.
" Oh Tate. " She frowned an evil grin, " you're going to wish you hadn't done that."
