My name is Private First Class Paul Jackson. I am 19 years old and I just enlisted. Besides that, where do I begin? Where do I begin to tell my story of how my life came about and how one girl changed my life forever? Lets start from the very beginning then.
It was the beginning of Freshman year when I was still that long haired rebel, you know the one that would dress in black or listen to death metal. It was a new life for me, High school, finally going through what some idiot created. Like holy hell man as if the first 8 years of schooling wasn't torture enough. 8 years of bullying and depression. High school was a new life for me, I couldnt even know what to think about it. It was The beginning of September when we came back to school, after all the graduation and leaving your old friends behind. Maybe you brought some of them with you when you graduated elementary. Unless you were like me who never had any friends then I guess you didnt really lose much. Besides all that it was orientation day and 1st day of high-school, woke up, brushed my teeth, ate and went to school.
When i got there, all the students were told to sit down in this giant auditorium. It wasnt like some lunch room auditorium though, like it was this giant ass sized room that had seats from the door to the stage which felt like a mile walk. So we all sat down and me being myself again, I was late. not because I woke up late though. I had gotten a haircut right before coming to school. It was a pretty nice cut for me, it was a nice Princeton fade military cut. I wasnt a fan of short hair but i figured hell why not?
I sat down in an open seat in the front with my ACU backpack, little did i realize that everyone was staring at me, little fact i didn't even care if i was late. Then i overheard a voice whispering to me "heres my copy of what they gave us". I looked over and its this beautiful european girl. Like holy shit she was drop dead gorgeous. She had long brown hair that was straight on the top and was naturally curly at the bottom. Top it off she had beautiful light brown eyes with the cutest smile. I nodded and read the paper and she asked me "let me guess, haircut had you running late?". I couldnt help but smile at her and she began to giggle at me as if I fell down the stairs or something. We quietly listened to the principal as he wished us good luck for the school year and hope the best for everyone.
When he was finally done talking he dismissed classes and my class didnt leave. I was in section 901 along with other classmates i didnt know and turns out she was in the same class as me! So the teacher went around and asked everyone their names and what they plan to do in life. When it came to her she said "My name is Laura, I want to become a nurse when i get older". Then came down to my turn, he asked me "Hello sir, what is your name? And what do you plan for your future?". I vaguely replied "Paul" and that was it. I didnt know what to tell them what i had planned for the future because i was not so sure what i had planned. So he asked me "what do you plan for the future?".
I sat there for about nearly 10 painful awkward silence seconds and some smart ass yelled out "its obvious he wants to join the military, look at his backpack". I just nodded and agreed and went with it. By the time the teacher was finished asking questions he told us for the whole day that we would stay in his classroom which was the auditorium.
Everyone pretty much began talking to each other and then there was me. I sat there quietly not talking to anyone. Then i felt a tap on my shoulder, it was Laura. She said "sorry to bother you and everything but did you really want to join the military?" I nodded and said "yes". She seemed very worried for me and i could see a little pain in her eyes. For some reason, seeing the pain in her eyes hurt my heart alot. Little did i know this was only the beginning of something...
