"Beep, beep, beep!" I sturred in my bed. "Beep, beep, beep!" "Ugh", I said sitting up in my bed and rubbing the sleep out of my light blue eyes. "Beep, be-". "That's enough of that", I said pressing the snooze button on my alarm clock. My eyes suddenly lit up. Today was the day for my mom and dad to tell me what my surprise was. I had been waiting the past 2 weeks, and it was finally time! First day of the summer, and its already turning out to be a good one.
I slid out of my bed and slipped on my fuzzy bear slippers. I ran quicker than the speed of light out of my room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. Just as I had suspected, my dad was reading the Saturday morning paper and drinking coffee, and my mother was making blueberry pancakes and bacon. I hopped onto the stool by the kitchen counter.
"Good morning dar-"my mother started. I cut in quickly,"So whats the big surprise!?" My mom turned around from cooking and frowned a bit, exchanging an uneasy glance with my dad. I was ready for the surprise. I had been waiting for the past 2 weeks. I feel like I've already said this. "Is it a trip to Disney? Or no no, PARIS!" I was was jumping so much on the stool that I almost fell off of it.
My dad looked up from his paper and smiled at me. "Even better." I turned my head. "Better?" Were my parents just messing with me? No no. We were definetly going to Italy. My mom now smiling too, opened her mouth to answer. "Gravity Falls!" At the strange words my face went pale, my eyes imediatley dull. "Please, please tell me thats atleast a place in California or something", I thought to myself.
My dad got up from his seat with his coffee in hand and came to stand by me. "Isn't that wonderful?", he said with a big smile, obviously more happy than me. I didn't answer him. My mom's uneasy face came back and she too came to stand by me. Seeing my expressionless face my mother said,"Gravity Falls is a beautiful little town in Oregon sweety. We can go fishing, camping, canoeing,.." "Hunting!", my dad put in. "And even go to the Mystery Shack!", my mom finished.
"And after a week of this Falls place, we'll be home just in time for Ellie's birthday!", I said excitedly, hoping my parents would agree with me. But, neither did. I knew what was coming next. We were going to spend the whole summer in that dump. My mom's constant face changing habit changed to sympathy, and she hugged me lightly.
"Sweety, your fathers job is moving again, so we have to just adjust to it." I could feel my face burning as red as a tomato, and I wondered if steam was actually coming out of my ears. "We..were...MOVING!?", I spat furiously. "Right before Ellie's birthday?! Leave all my friends?! Not get to go to my dream highschcool?!" I didn't dare look at my parents, but instead put my head in my hands.
My mother hugged me tighter. "Its okay Ava darling, you can send all your friends postcards! Or you could send letters to them about your new home and..." I just tuned her out. My summer was ruined. My life was ruined. But, it couldn't possibly get worse, could it?
All of a sudden, I quickly lifted my face from my hands at a strange buring smell. "Mom! Your bacon is on fire!", I said staring at the flaming stove, my eyes wide. My mom just about jumped out of her skin and ran to the stove. My dad rushed from the room, quickly returnong with a fire extenguisher. "Here Darlene, catch!", he said frantically tossing the extenguisher to my mother.
I watched in horror as my mother attempted to put out the fire, the flames just barely burning the wooden cabinets above the stove. I couldn't stand to watch my summer be ruined. As much as I didn't want to, I ran out of the kitchen with tears in my eyes to my bedroom. "I might as well pack", I said to myself, wiping my tears and slamming my bedroom door.
I walked over to my nightstand by my bed. I looked down at the picture of me and my 3 best friends. I picked it up, and flopped on my bed. Holding the picture close to my heart, I said aloud,"please this Gravity Falls place not be a mistake. Maybe I'll make new friends..." I trailed off. Pushing these thoughts to the back of my mind, I stood up. I placed the picture back on my nightstand, and began packing.
[I'm sure everybody was looking forward to some Gravity Falls action, but I promise there will be a whole ton in Chapter 2! Leave me comment on your opinion of the book so far, or leave suggestions if you have any. Thanks!]
