Chapter 22 (Part 2)

WHEN ELVIN ENTERED in his office, he immediately sat on his swivel chair. Saktong pag-upo niya ay biglang tumunog ang cellphone niya na nasa kaniyang bulsa. He heaved a deep sigh and took his phone from his pocket. When he saw Levin's name on the screen, he answered the call.

"Hello," he said, emotionless.

He's tired. He is really tired!

"I have a bad news, Elvin," anito sa naghihikahos na tono.

He stood up and went to the mini-kitchen in his office. After that, he took a bottle of beer and went to the mini-sala and sat down on the couch. He opened the beer and drank three times. And then he focused his attentions on Levin.

"Anong masamang balita, huh? I'm tired, Levin. I've been working since  morning then you are calling me to tell that you have a bad news? It sucks!" He rolled his eyes in annoyance.

Mapaklang tumawa si Levin kapagkuwan. "Even though the bad news is about Shanelle? If it sucks, you better not know it," ani Levin saka pinatay ang tawag.

Napaamang na lang siya ng mga oras na iyon. Si Lane ang tinutukoy nito? Really? Lane is fine dahil kakakausap niya lang dito kanina. She told that she was fine pero nag-aalala pa rin siya. Does Levin is telling him the truth? And what kind of bad news is that?

Curiousity kills the cat, Elvin called back Levin. Sinagot naman kaagad ng kapatid niya.

"I need to know that," saad niya sa mahinahong tono.

"Okay! Let me tell you what happened to her.  Papunta na ako sa bahay nina dad at mom. And I couldn't believe what I saw lately. I saw Shanelle on the road while talking to three men. I thought they were talking good, but when Shanelle turned her back, a man stabbed her on her stomach. They left her almost lifeless kaya pinuntahan ko siya. Currently, nandito siya sa bahay ko at ginagamot na siya ni Dr. Reyes."

Dahil sa gulat, nabitawan niya ang beer na hawak at mabilis na napatayo sa kinauupuan. Is this for real? Shanelle was stabbed? For real? Fuck, it can't be real!

Dahil sa pag-aalala sa dalaga, hindi na niya sinagot ang kapatid bagkus ay pinatay na niya ang kaniyang cellphone at mabilis na lumabas sa kaniyang opisina. While walking, his employees greeted him, but he didn't greet them back. He continued walking until he reached the elevator. He clicked the ground floor button where the parking lot is located.

His heart is pounding. Hindi pa rin nagsi-sink in sa utak niya ang mga sinabi ng kapatid niya. This can't be real because Lane told him that she was fine. He stopped thinking. Maybe— maybe she was just lying? Like she didn't really okay. At nang dahil doon, lalo siyang kinabahan kaya nang bumukas ang elevator, tumakbo siya patungo sa Bugatti niya at mabilis na sumakay. He sighed and manouvered his car towards Levin's house.

Gulong-gulo ang isip niya ng mga oras na iyon. He's hoping that Lane would be safe on her medication, if the news is true. Naaala niya, minsan na siyang prinank ng kapatid niya kaya hindi siya ganoon katiwala sa mga sinabi nito. Ugh! His brain is about to explode!

Makalipas ang kalahating oras, nakarating na siya sa bahay ni Levin. Kaagad siyang bumaba sa kaniyang sasakyan at mabilis pa sa alas-kuwatro na tinaktabo ang bahay ng kapatid niya. Nang makapasok siya, nakita niya si Levin na nakaupo sa couch. He ran towards to him to clarify that so-called bad news.

"Levin!" he shouted.

Kaagad na tumingin sa kaniya ang kapatid, tumayo ito mula sa pagkaka-upo. "Elvin, you're here!"

He clenched his fists. "Totoo ba ang sinasabi mo? Where is she? I need to see her kung totoo nga ang sinasabi mo. Where the hell is she, huh?!" nanggigigil niyang sigaw.
