I picked up my cell phone and ran out of the bathroom. Rileigh gave me a satisfied smirk when I crossed the hall. "What. A. Jerk." I thought to myself. As I walked down the rubble covered streets, I started thinking. "What could he have made that didn't make me seem more like the dork that I already am? The last few he made really ticked me off. They've burnt my eyebrows, singed my hair, and gotten slime on my favorite pair of converse." Finally, I walked up the cream colored steps into my one story house. As soon as I walked in, the pungent odor of chemicals and coffee hit my nose. "Hey Steph, how was school?" he asked. "Fine." I said, not bothering to tell him about the hell that is Caramel Cove High. "Great. Well, I have something that you might like." He replied enthusiastically, not noticing the sarcasm in my voice. Of course. "Ok." I said, apprehensively awaiting the horror that is in that lab. I walked in slowly, quietly closing the door behind me. "I think you're going to be really excited for this one." he said. " Great..." I thought. He put an immobilized rat on the table in front of me. "EWWWWW! IS IT DEAD?!" I exclaimed, recoiling in disgust. "No silly! I just put him on a numbing agent." he replied, as if I were supposed to know that. "This is to simulate a paralysed rat." he explained to me. Then he pulled out a small metal spider looking thing. "This is experiment C32X. It sends artificial nerve signals to help paralysed limbs move again." "Wow, that's actually kind of cool!" I said. "But how do you send those signals?" "By a voice activated remote. To let go of the device's signal , just press release." he explained. "Just be careful not to hit the override button, or else things you can't explain will happen." he warned. "Alrighty then." I replied, grabbing the remote and playing with it.
