Hey everyone! Hope you're all enjoying the story 🥰 a word of warning - this chapter is kind of mature, so read at your own discretion. Thanks!
I feel sick. All I want to do is cry or run away. Or both.
"Grayson, say something," I whisper, my voice cracking.
I watch Grayson, his bold, dark eyes losing their shimmer, his knife-sculpted jaw clenching firmer than I've ever seen it before. His face flushes a ghostly white, like he could be sick at any moment.
When he realises he still has his hand around my shoulder, he yanks it away.
I flinch slightly, and tears form. "Grayson?"
This is worse than I thought it would be, and, despite everything else, I feel terrible. So, so terrible.
Grayson swallows, and sighs as he pushes his fingers against his eyelids. "When?" He chokes.
My heart sinks for him. I didn't think he'd be this affected given the circumstances.
"Earlier today," I say, lowering my eyes to my hands. "I was just so overwhelmed with everything, and Anderson was there—being friendly and supportive and it just—"
"Just happened, right?" Grayson finishes, his voice breaking.
I sigh, sniffling. "Look. He could tell I was hurt by something, and he just made—"
"What?" Grayson hisses. "He just thought that a kiss would make you feel better, huh?" He drags his large hand through his silky dark hair, exhaling with disbelief. "So what's the deal then Mia? Do you like him? Because I thought that you loved me?" His eyes sparkle with the presence of tears, his voice breaking a little more with each word he says.
It hurts me to see him hurt.
"No, Grayson," I whimper. "But he's a friend and he was there for me. Yes, it was a mistake, and I regret it now, and I'm sorry. But given everything that you've hidden from me, I don't think you really have a leg to stand on."
He looks to me with eyes that are ready to pop, and I'm pretty sure his sweatshirt could rip at the chest against his heavy breathing when he says, "I know what I've hidden from you is wrong, so very wrong. But I would never cheat on you, Mia. Don't you think I know something special when I have it?"
"What about those prostitutes that were all over you in Jack's Cellar?" I screech, angered by his hypocrisy.
"Fuck, Mia! I thought we went over this!" Grayson stands and waves his arms around. "They're just fucking whores who have nothing better to do with their time. They mean fuck all to me, and I've never done anything with them other than allow them to sit on my lap—and that's only because I have a reputation to keep. I don't enjoy it. It feels disgusting."
