"I conjure the Essence of storm from above!" The voice shrieked over the thunderstorms. The rain beat down with vigor. Five poles were placed in a pentacle position, the rain has long since washed away the markings but that didn't matter now to Grady, it was nearing the end now.
He swiped the screen of the tablet, moving to the next page of the spell, silently praying the rain didn't ruin the tablet before he was done. Instructions said to memorize the whole thing before the process but he was too damn lazy to bother. He read the next line and raised his hand, pointing his palm at the raging storm.
"I claim the right to wield the power of the storm, I stand worthy!" He didn't feel particularly worthy but as the saying goes 'speaking is believing' or so they say.
Lightning snaked through the sky and shot down, striking the tallest of poles and travelling quickly to the next till it formed a circle.
"I offer this amulet na'al thunra abidun!"
The said amulet hovered above ground in the center of the circle, it looked like a locket made from welding a collection of iron rings. The lightning converged on it, the metal glow with heat, steam blew into the air as rainwater beat down on it.
The light on the screen of the tablet blinked for an instant the went off completely.
"Oh no! Shit! Shit! Shit!"
Grady's mind raced, 'what was the last line of the incantation?! Was it grina sien? Or velara bar?' the wrong incantation will make the ritual go haywire and the kickback might blow him off the roof and considering that the building was over fifty storeys high, that was an extremely undesirable outcome!
"Uh uh" he drew a blank, perhaps memorizing the spell was useful after all. The spell sizzled still, waiting for him to end it.
"Uh amen?" He squeaked uncertainly.
The amulet shivered a little like it would crack and explode any moment but the lightning seeped into it and it dropped to the ground with an undramatic clack.
Grady slumped in relief, both in the fact that the spell seemed successful and that the storm had ceased.
"Hi there" a voice called pleasantly. He whirled around quickly as his heart rate skyrocketed. He was supposed to be alone! That was the whole point of sneaking into an office block in the middle of the night!
The woman who spoke was dressed in a no-nonsense business suit complete with dark shades while beside her stood two women or at least he felt that they were women. The one on the right had to be over seven and a half feet tall with an absolutely massive rack while the other was more average looking with red hair.
"Well boy I don't know what you just did there but I'm certain I have to arrest you now"
It took Grady a moment to recover and pick his jaw off the ground, these women were hot! Even though the freakishly tall one had a horn poking out of her forehead. A monster then.
"Uhh" his tongue felt like lead, his mind foggy. Effects of magix....hours later
Grady sat in a chair watching the the boring white walls of the Mon-Hum Head Quarters. The woman had simply introduced herself as 'Miss Smith' yeah how original right? He snorted. He'd managed to recover some brain power but he was physically exhausted. They had been nice enough to provide him with warm clothes to change into, a yellow striped tracksuit that was a bit too big but he didn't mind.
He dug his finger into his dreadlocks, it was still damp 'might need to dry it later' he paused and glanced around 'if they let me go home that is'.
The woman walked out of her office, looking as carefree as ever.
"Turns out 'Mr Honeyplum' your use of dark magix was well within my jurisdiction after all"
Grady winced as she put extra emphasis on the fake name he had given.
"You can drop the act" Grady said with a sigh.
"Of course Mr Grady Danaga" Miss Smith smiled at the name, "I like the name"
Grady glared at her though his locks, was she flirting? Nah she was making fun of him.
With another sigh Grady asked " what now?"
Miss Smith shrugged, "since you're human we can't treat you like a monster but the conventional police can't handle your case either"
"Shit" Grady muttered, 'really should've thought this through'.
"Oh don't look so sad" she said suddenly, too cheerfully, "I found the perfect solution!"
Grady looked skeptical, "what might that be?"
Miss Smith paced around a bit, making Grady nervous.
"Did a quick research into your background, you're a good kid, you like to help out, the elderly woman you always help walk her dog and mow her lawn, the nice farmer, even school kids"
Grady blinked in surprise, "how do you know all that?"
Miss Smith smiled again, "research" she answered simply and vaguely.
"Now back to the main thing" she took a deep breath before she announced "Congratulations Mr Grady, dark handsome magix caster! You are now a proud host in the Monster-Exchange program!"
His brain took a short break at that, it said 'okay I need a coffee before I deal with this one and left the control room in his head'
A one eyed woman walked up to Miss Smith. A cyclops, another member of the Mon-Hum squad.
"Is he okay? I think you broke him"
"Nonsense" miss Smith said, "he's just speechless from excitement"
"Do I have another option? Maybe a few hours of community service?" Grady asked hopefully.
"Oh silly boy" the woman laughed, "this is community service"
