A young rattlesnake, no more than 5 years of age, watched out the window of her den that night. She looked out into the dark, dry terrain. It was slightly lit by the light of the crescent moon.

“... When does daddy get home from his meeting, mommy?” she asked, turning her big chocolate colored eyes to her black-tailed rattlesnake mother.

“I dunno, darlin… he should’a been home ‘bout 2 hours from now.” she responds, “I’mma go out t’find him. D’not answer the door, ‘less it’s either me or yer daddy.” she told her, loading her rattler-gun.

“Yes, mommy.” she responds, coiling up into a little ball, tongue flicking out.

The adult female rattler slithered upon the sand that night, sometimes slithering on dirt. She knew her mate would come home from a certain direction, South East.

“George?” she calls out, “George?!” she kept looking for him.

A gun clicking was heard, then…

*POW!!!*

3 hours have passed, and her mother nor father have come home yet. So she remains curled up in a ball, on the floor, “... mommy?.. daddy?”
