I frantically unlocked the door. 7:49.

"Jace?" I yelled out.

"In here." He responded.

I walked into the dining room. He still had all the food out and hadn't eaten anything yet.

"I'm so sorry I'm late. I met some kids who go to my school and lost track of time." I spoke.

"No worries. I'm just glad you have friends."

"Thanks." We sat in silent for a couple moments. "Why haven't you eaten yet? I'm almost an hour late."

"Oh, I was just about to. I just wanted to give you a chance to have dinner with me." He responded, cutting into his chicken.

"Oh... thanks." I replied, looking down at my dinner. It was chicken fettucine alfredo. My favorite from when I was younger.

"This used to be my favorite." I spoke as I took a bite of creamy noodles and chicken.

"I know." He responded, and small smile on your face.

We sat in silence a little more.

"Excited for school tomorrow?" He looked at me, across the table.

"Yeah. I mean, I have to go, so might as well make the best out of it." I spoke.

"I'm really sorry I took you out of your old school. I just really wanted a chance to get to know you before it was too late." He spoke.

"Better late than never." I responded. I wasn't gonna tell him it's okay because I was still hurt that I had to leave them all behind.

"Did you like it there?" He asked.

"Loved it. They were my family." I lifted my head up looking him in the eyes.

"Listen, I'll make a deal. I know your friend... what's her name?"

"Ari."

"Yes, Ari. When she comes, if you still miss it immensely, and you really really want to, you can go back with her." He spoke. "I really want you to stay, but I don't want you to hate me more. I just want you to be happy. I'm sorry I took you away from that." He spoke as we finished dinner.

"Really?!"

"Yes."

"Thank you so much, dad!" I jumped up and ran over to him, pulling him into a big hug.

"Of course. I just want you to be happy." His voice cracked.

It was the first time I had called him dad, and we were both very aware of it. I pulled away.

"Um... I'm gonna go to my room and go to bed. Big day tomorrow."

"Sounds good. Sleep well." He placed his hand on my cheek and placed a kiss on my forehead.

The moment I closed my bedroom door, my phone rang. Unknown number. Must be Jacob. I answered.

"Jacob?" I ask.

"Try again, Apple." I could hear his smirk.

"Xavier." I breathed out.

"That's right. Now, do you wanna tell me what happened between you two?" He spoke angrily.

Jacob was right. We played with fire.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I responded.

"Don't play dumb, Anna." The sound of my name through his lips made me shiver.

"Xavi-"

"If I remember clearly, I told you that you were mine." He spoke

"You did."

"Well than, what's the problem?" He asked.

"What's the problem? You have a fucking girlfriend!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk."

"What?"

"Fiona is old news. You're mine, I'm yours."

"Xavier." I breathed out. Something about him saying that I was his and he was mine made me feel all tingly inside.

"See you tomorrow. Sweet dreams, Apple."

Xavier would be the death of me.
