"Alright, beginners spells are the ones every unicorn species can do, such as translation spells, gift of flight, and levitation of objects," stated Brother.

"I'm aware of the translation spell, since Nightingale used it on me, Janus and Virgil, but the others are alien to me," Logan said.

"Fear not kindred. We will teach you these along with basic magic for Boreal unicorns. Blizzards, snowflakes, ice, and more can be unlocked in time," smiled Shadow.

"Then let's begin,"

"Of course. We'll start with levitation," Brother turned his head to a pile of snow and with a swish of his horn a large snowball was crafted.

"Levitation is arguably the easiest spell. All you have to do is imagine you are lifting the object in your head, then feel the magic in you, and project it onto the object. The first few times require much concentration, but after you get the hang of it you'll be able to do it on a whim," instructed Shadow.

Logan nodded then focused on the large snowball. He imagined lifting it up off the ground, feeling it float a few inches off the snow. The magic he had just unlocked surged through him, eager to be released and then the snowball was floating, levitated in the air just a few inches off the ground.

"Great job kindred. You're taking to this we-" Brother praises but he was cut off sharply.

"HEYA LOGAN! HOW'S IT GOING?!"

Logan startled so much he lost focus, dropping the snowball on the ground where it crumbled into smaller fragments. Agitated Logan looked over to see Roman and Janus walking up to them. Well, more like Janus walked while Roman strutted through the snow. At least, that's how Logan would describe it as.

"Geode heed my warning in saying you should remain quiet. Our kindred is trying to concentrate and you just distracted him. Why might you be here?" Brother said matter-of-factly, remaining calm and collected even after being interrupted.

"Well Nightingale took Virgil out to train him after starting the fire again, Patton's still in the cave shivering off half his body weight, Remus is trying to help Patton and Fynn is still asleep. I got bored and choose to find you guys so I can watch you learn magic," Roman rambled while flicking his long chestnut tail.

"I came along to ensure he doesn't bring an avalanche down on us," added Janus.

"Avalanches are no issue here. Why, we could simply stop them or redirect them. You need not fear Beach Aqua," smiled Shadow.

"Good to know," snorted Janus, shifting on his hooves.

"You said Virgil was training with Nightingale?" Logan said.

"Yeah," Roman dismissed.

"I wish him luck then. We've heard tales of how intense Lunar unicorn magic training can be. At least, for those gifted with great magic like your friend," laughed Brother, stomping his front right hoof into the snow.

Logan felt mildly worried for Virgil -how intense was this training?- but he quickly shook that thought off. Magic training seemed simple enough, how bad could Lunar unicorn magic be?

"Now, kindred, lets continue our training. Brother, if you wish you could teach those two how to connect to their magic," continued Shadow, swishing their thick tail.

"Of course friend. Come Geode and Beach Aqua. I can teach you how to connect to your magic and the basics that all unicorns learn," Brother trotted over to the two and took them to a lower ledge.

Logan spend the majority of the day with Shadow, quickly mastering the levitation spell then moving on to translation which was a bit more difficult. They never made it to the 'gift of flight' Brother had mentioned, but Shadow praised him for getting through two spells in one day. With Roman and Janus, they both connected with their magic pretty quickly, though Roman seemed to be having difficulty learning the spells. Janus was able to learn the translation spell, but struggled greatly with levitation.

"Hey Brother, who's that?" Roman suddenly asked, pointing to the valley below. The creatures before had long since left, the valley deserted except for the single unicorn galloping at full speed towards them, snow billowing up in their wake. They were pure white like the other two Boreal unicorns, but this unicorn had a pale cream colored mane and tail tipped in silvery blue. Their beautiful curved blue horn glinted like an icicle in the weak sun rays.

"Oh no," breathed Brother, Shadow snickering as the unicorn approached.

"What 'oh no'? Who is that?" asked Roman.

"That's-" Brother stared, but stopped when the unicorn leaped onto the ledge, tossing their head so their long forelock flipped to the other side of their face and snorting after their run.

"Brother of the Arctic Wind where have you been?! The Herd of Drifting Ice has been worried about you all day!" they cried, Brother folding his ears back in embarrassment.

"Sorry, sister," he mumbled sheepishly.

"Hi, hello. Who're you?" Roman asked, drawing attention to him, Janus, and Logan.

"Hello to you too, Geode. My name is Sif that Flys at Dawn, she/her pronouns. My younger brother here has been missing from our herd and I was sent out to find him after the storm and Windigos passed. Whom might you three be?" the unicorn said, deep blue eyes that could be mistaken for black looking at the three of them.

"I'm Roman, this is Janus and that is Logan. We have some other friends, but they're not here right now," introduced Roman.

Sif that Flys at Dawn nodded then turned her attention to the other two steeds.

"We were fine sister. We had to help these travelers though, who would've been caught in the storm," said Brother.

"Doesn't matter, you can bring your friends with you, but I'm taking you back to the herd. Shadow what of your kin?" Sif nickered.

"The Herd of Faded Light is indifferent to when I leave. They trust that I'll return within a few days," answered Shadow.

"Good. We fetch your friend and they can join us at the herd. Lead the way Brother," Sif lifted her head to indicated it was time to get going.

"Alright. This way sister," Brother lead them all away from the ledge to the cave where they had camped out.
