18. Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900V

I used to see this a LOT more on Wattpad than nowadays, but it's still out there everywhere and it annoys me so much. Please. Don't. Spew. Information. At. Us.

Example:

"I looked into her small, scared, brown eyes with my slightly larger, worried, ocean-blue ones that had a strand of my shoulder-length, chestnut-coloured hair obscuring my 20/20 vision (as such, I don't wear glasses or contact lenses, obviously).

'Don't worry,' I said, and I hugged her 5'6" figure. I had to stand on my toes because I myself was only 5'0". Suddenly I felt my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900V that was 142 mm by 72.5 mm by 8.1 mm and had a dark-green phone case around it buzzing in the right pocket of my jeggings that I bought from Hollister for half price. I took it out and stared at the 12-pt words in Arial font on my LED screen."

I know you must've spent a ton of time planning out your characters and deciding on every little detail down to the size of their phone and how much money they spent on their jeans and stuff. That's cool, honestly. Professional writers do that all the time. The thing is, though, you're not supposed to actually PUT all the information into your story unless it's relevant and seriously, legitly, for real adds to your character development. Nobody cares what the model number of your character's phone is! Nobody cares what their visual acuity is, either! And even if it does seriously, legitly, for real add to your character development, you're not supposed to CRAM IT ALL INTO ONE PARAGRAPH. That is not how you write a story or hold your readers' attention.

(P.S. I don't own a Samsung Galaxy S5, unfortunately.)

Since the model number thing doesn't happen that often, I'll just rant about the "5'6" figure" part. Something you should know: you don't use that kind of notation in novels! Just like how you don't write like this:

"1st of all, he has 2 diplomas. +, he's really hot. Hot like 100° C. ∴ he's both smart & hot. My best friend/sister would like him. They'd be perfect for each other! E.g. they both like ice cream, so she can eat 1/2 and he could eat the other 1/2. Their relationship will advance at 100 kmph. BTW, my sister's bday is in Sept."

Write out the words like you're supposed to. Seriously.
