❝You change the world by being yourself.❞
~Yoko Ono

A few seconds pass and neither of us say anything. Chloé starts fidgeting with the sleeves of her sweatshirt, her eyes watching me as she anxiously waits for my reaction.

"I'm going to make us some milkshakes, you go upstairs and get cosy. We're going to have a talk and I'm going to need a hot minute to digest this information." I tell her.

She nods her head and goes upstairs.

Just as I'm about to make the milkshakes a realization strikes me. Shit. I take my phone out of my pocket to make a phone call, he picks up after the third ring.

"Hey, sorry I'm running late. I promise I'm leaving soon." Hunter says immediately as he answers.

"Hi. That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about...Can we maybe reschedule?" I ask him sheepishly.

"Uh yeah. Is everything okay?" He asks, concerned. "I mean you don't have to tell me." He says hastily.

"No, everything is fine. It's just Chloé is here and she's been feeling not like herself lately so I kinda wanna spend the night with her and I promise we can reschedule for another time or-"

"It's okay Charlotte. Don't worry about it. We can make it another day. Chloé's lucky to have a friend like you. Enjoy your quality time." He says sincerely

"Thanks for understanding Hunter."

"You're welcome. I'll be holding you to that date."

I feel like an idiot smiling to myself in the kitchen.

We say our goodbyes and I get started on the milkshakes. I grab a small tub of ice-cream to make her feel better and walk back upstairs equipped with all things necessary for the situation. Chloé is already sitting on my bed, staring into space.

"Hey." I say softly so that I don't startle her. "So I made us milkshakes and I got ice-cream..." I trail off.

"Is it-"

"Mint chocolate chip? Yes."

She smiles in appreciation. "This is why I love you, you beautiful human." She gushes.

I put down all of our snacks on my desk and I take a seat opposite her but before I can start to question her she says, "I'm surprised it's just you here, I kind of expected to be crashing movie night."

"Wow, you really were out of it today. Umm Josh and I kind of got into another fight, he's been avoiding me ever since."

She stares at me shocked. "Hold on. Didn't you guys just make up?" She questions.

It's been like a few chapters since then. "Sort of. He has been kind of weird, like he's lashing out more. I mean he has always been like this but never with me and I just.....don't know what to do or how to talk with him anymore. I mean the only reason we fought was because of Hunter or at least I think that's why."

She wraps her arm around me. "I'm sorry Char. I honestly wish I could tell you what was wrong but I have no idea. I mean he has been looking a bit more distracted lately but then again so have I..." She trails off. "Is that why he's been spending all his free time helping coach?"

I nod my head. "Yeah, pretty much." I clear my throat.

"Look Chlo, we don't have to talk about but..."

"You wanna know if I actually meant what I said?"

"Well kinda. I mean you said that you think you like Mason?"
