English class was probably the only way I was gonna talk to Nick except he had his bodyguard with him. I probably should have known better than to hope that I'd succeed in talking to Nick alone. It was practically impossible, but maybe if I could just get him without his bodyguard, that would be enough. He never had one around when he was talking to a 'customer'. So how could I become a customer? For today, I sat at the back of the class as close to Nick as I could get. It was probably too late to not be noticed since I did bump into him this morning. Levi, why on Earth are you getting closer to Nick after making a scene with him as the target? Are you actually that stupid. Too late though because if I moved, he'd definitely notice. The kid that was with him earlier walked up and sat next to Nick in the nearest seat possible.
"So what's going on?" He asked and I was definately confused. They seem like good friends this morning. Now? Not so much. "I've given you the money. When am I getting what you promised me?"
"Meet me at the park after school." The park? Like Acoma Park? "I don't want anyone to know I gave it to you, okay."
"If you don't bring it, I'll make you regret it."
"What did you just say to me?"
"Just bring it okay."
"I will. Park bench under the trees, okay?"
"See you then, man." They shook hands and smiled like nothing had happened but that was probably the scariest thing I'd ever seen. The kid walked out of the classroom and Nick whispered into his bodyguard's ear. A moment later he nodded and I turned away so they wouldn't see me staring.
~♡~
I really hope this is the right park, I thought to myself. If not I'm screwed. I sat there in the shade, on my phone so I wouldn't just stare at everyone who passed me, for a solid 15 minutes and I almost gave up when I saw that kid from earlier sit down on a park bench 10 feet away from me. He looked around him cautiously and sat down but for some reason he didn't look at me. We both sat there awkwardly a few feet from each other, or at least I felt awkward. Nick walked up greeted him like the kid was his best friend, but he didn't seem so happy to see Nick.
"What's up dude?"
"You're late," he growled. "Where have you been?"
"I keep busy. I don't know what else you expect of me?"
"Did you bring it this time?" He asked roughly. "Are am I gonna have to take drastic measures?"
"Are you threatening me?" Nick asked quietly but when Nick to quiet it meant something was about to go down.
"Are you playing me?" He countered. "Cause if you are I will tell everyone you're a hoax."
"Is this a hoax?" Nick asked handing him a bag with something white in it.
"Finally," smirked.
"Just gotta have a little faith, my dude."
"My apologies then."
"Apology accepted. We cool?"
"'Course. Same time next week?"
"Sounds good to me." They shook hand hugged
"Well, clearly you want my attention. So what do you want?"
"What?! I don't know-" I stutted.
"Spill," he said again more slowly. Stupid! You've been following him around all day. Of course, he noticed. He had this weird vibe around him that made me scared of It wasn't that I liked him. More like I thought he'd kill me if I didn't say anything.
"I want d-drugs?" I answered uncertainly.
"You? Want drugs?" He asked like he trying to get me to chicken out.
"Yeah." Even I could hear how shaky my voice was.
"How 'bout we try this again and you don't lie to me. Do you want drugs?"
"Yes." He stood on and started walking away from me so I grabbed his arm. He looked at my hand with disgust then slowly looked at me like he was daring me to touch him for even another second.
"Sorry. My friend wants drugs."
"The friend you were with earlier? What's her name?"
"Kaitlin, but she goes by Kai."
"Right. Kai. How much does she want?"
"A normal amount?" I said unsure. She didn't tell me what she wanted so basically I have no clue what she wants. I don't even know what a normal amount is.
"How 'bout you go ask her how much and I'll tell you how much it'll cost. Let me know when she's ready. And Levi," he said stopping before he walked away. "Don't be a creep about it." He walked toward the parking lot where his dark camaro convertible was parked and I saw that his backpack was open. I wasn't sure what to do though. If I called him out on it that would be awkward, but if I didn't still awkward once he found out.
"Nick, you're backpack," I blurted out without thinking. He looked at it, rolled his eyes, closed it, and threw it in his care.
"Quit staring at me, would you?" I looked away as soon as I could and my heart reaced. I wasn't still being a creep, right? I was following him around all day but it's not like I make a habit of it. I had other things to worry about than being creepy though. I didn't get the drugs. I didn't hold up my end of the blackmail. So what was Kai gonna say?
