I opened my locker again today and when I closed it Kai was standing right behind it smiling at me.
"What are you so happy about?" I asked.
"Don't you have something for me?" She asked batting her eyes.
"No, why?" Her smile fell and she quinted at me menacingly.
"So you didn't get my drugs?"
"No," I answered sarcastically. "You didn't give me any money and you didn't tell me how much you want."
"You could have paid for it and I would have paid you back."
"You still haven't paid me back for that 6 pack of Mountain Dew. Why on Earth would I let you borrow more money from me?"
"Did you even talk to him, cause honestly, I can't tell."
"I did. He wanted to know how much you wanted so he could give you a price."
"Wow, Levi. I'm impressed. I kinda thought you'd chicken out."
"He's not that scary."
"Who's not that scary?" Nick asked from behind me and I jumped.
"No one," I said flustered. "Kai and were just talking about how much she wanted."
"So how much?"
"10 pills to start."
"Are you sure?" He asked looking her up and down. "You don't look like you can pay for it."
"I can pay for it."
"You can? You don't dress like it."
"Believe it or not, Hot Topic is actually very expensive so watch your attitude 'cause you might lose some business if you don't."
"Oh feisty. I like it. 10 pills will be $75."
"$75?!" We asked in unison.
"Gotta make a living somehow, right?"
"More like you gotta pay for that expensive car you drive?" I said sarcastically.
"My parents paid for that. That's the beauty of being me: the son of a millionaire." He threw his hand in the air like he had just down a magic trick, but there was nothing magic about him being rich. That was just luck. "The other beauty is that I can do side jobs like this without my parents even knowing."
"You're not the only rich one around, Nick." She said his name very distastfully. "And you're definitely not the only family that supports this school." I don't know why she mentioned that. Probably just a status thing.
"Actually, we're all three even on that one 'cause my parents support the school too." Kai rolled her eyes.
"Why they do that I have no idea."
"They probably just want the best for you, Kai."
"Yours might. Mine? They don't care."
"Me neither," Nick chipped in. "So I don't know what world you're living in but it must be nice."
"Why not?"
"My parents still call me Kaitlin, Levi," she sneered. "They refuse to even accept that I'm tomboy and I hate my name."
"My parents bought me a car so they wouldn't have to drive me to school. They don't want anything to do with me."
"Nick, you're exaggerating," I said rolling my eyes.
"You think I'm exaggerating?" Nick asked me and I immediately regretted opening my mouth. Although this time I'm pretty sure he wasn't gonna hit me. "My dad hasn't said one nice thing to be since I started high school. They're pushing me to get good grades so they can kick me off to college and never see me again. And good riddence."
"Same," Kai nodded. "My parents are more worried about their own self image than me. I'm pretty sure that why they donate to the school."
"Agreed," Nick said. They continued talking but I felt very left out. My parents weren't anywhere near this bad even if I hated coming from a religious family. So what had happened theirs?
