~Amity's POV, present~

The moon is in a lucent state, shining in front of me.

Inhale, exhale.

Inhale, exhale.

I try to discourage myself to stop, even though the glimmering light of the moon showers me like I've been put up in the spotlight. Devilry, one could interpret from the simple act of grace. Immortal is the moon's gaze, as it seems to speak to me. But, of course, I can't understand it.

I want to understand it.

But even so, I pass by it, trying to resist the urge to look back and stare at its beautiful, lonely gaze with wonder. The moon's reflection bathes the small pond that I pass by, causing the water to glow a luminescent golden.

" Urgh! Pull yourself together, Amity! You have got to stop getting so distracted all the time!" I start to talk to myself, pinching myself in order to stop looking at the scenery that surrounds me. This must be a good sign: talking to myself. I guess it means that I'm starting to be more optimistic in my surroundings perhaps.

Yeah, right. Sure I'm being 'optimistic'.

After that meal of human flesh a mere two days ago, I've started to question to myself: what do I think is the right thing to do? And heck, if I'm able to figure that out, why?

Laughing to myself, I start to think if maybe I'm just a one very indecisive being. Like I told you before, I'm a 'being'. I decide that there and now, that perhaps that I'm neither human or dhatin. Then... What am I?

While still in a stream of conscious thought about myself once more-

" Wow, ma'am! Your eyes are like the sky, but prettier! Look Nelly, look at her eyes!" A child suddenly appears before me, his eyes wide from curiosity. He waves over to a child behind me, who comes running towards him with pure excitement. This child himself possesses long, unruly black hair, and his pale complexion is sickly, eyes weary. I look at the child from head to toe as if examining him to the best of my ability: torn jeans, skimpy raggedy t-shirt. Poor child, I think. But, for what he lacks in appearance, he makes up in a warm, welcoming voice and a upbeat, sweet gaze.

However, the child running up to him, is different. While her clothes are prim and proper: a long pale-pink cotton dress, an expensive-looking wool coat, her eyes are alert, and her gaze rather annoyed. She looks older than the little boy, perhaps nine or ten? Maybe.

But one thing is for sure, these children definitely shouldn't be roaming around at 10 o'clock in the evening. Especially in the Requiem Forests.

Maybe... Class just ended for these dhatin children?

Well, strange to know that school just has ended already, especially it being in the evening.

So, out of pure curiosity, I decide to ask the little boy, " Did class just ended for you, child?" I ask the little boy dhatin, crouching down to his small frame, with a smile that I intended to come off as friendly.

The boy dhatin's gaze melts into one of fear, as his brows scrunch inwards and his eyes look like they've just seen a ghost.

" Is there something the matter, child?" Did I do something wrong? Perhaps I gave a smirk instead of a smile? No... It couldn't have been that! I tried my very best to come off as friendly, as a mere kind being. So, is there really something going on?
