Kageyama hated hospitals.
He could be playing volleyball right now if it weren't for his stupid injury. Stupid ankle. Stupid nurses. Stupid hospital.
He hated all of it. All he could do was sit there and huff while he was getting his x ray.
"It's fractured, alright," The doctor sighed.
"Are you sure I can't play volleyball? It doesn't even hurt that much." Kageyama lied. It was very clear that it hurt.
"Sorry, kid. It'll only take six weeks to heal, after that, you can play as much volleyball as you want." The doctor gave him a sympathetic smile, but Kageyama just scowled in response.
"Alright, we're gonna wrap this, and then you're good to go!" The doctor asked.
"Okay," Kageyama replied.
After what felt like a million years, Kageyama was out of the hospital. He was walking - or rather, limping, since he was on crutches - back home with his friend Sugawara, who was the person who brought him to the ER in the first place.
"How is your ankle feeling?" Suga asked in his usual sweet tone.
"It's fine," Kageyama mumbled. "They're making me come back weekly for muscle therapy, or whatever."
"Oh, that's not too bad. Besides, you get two months off school. That's good, right?" Suga smiled sympathetically.
"Yeah, and two months off of practice." Kageyama replied, furrowing his brows.
Suga sighed. "You can always come watch us practice, you know."
"I guess." Kageyama shrugged.
"Well, It's still the very beginning of the year. You won't miss much, I promise." Sugawara reassured him, patting his back gently. "Oh, look, there's your house now! Let me help you inside."
"Okay."
Suga helped Kageyama up the stairs and opened the door for him. Kageyama stood in the doorway and watched Suga leave before limping over to his room. He leaned his crutches against his bedside table and crawled into bed.
"Tobio!" Kageyamas mother shouted from the kitchen. "It's dinnertime, come eat!"
"Not hungry!" Kageyama called back. He heard his mother sigh.
Kageyama stared up at the ceiling. Two months with no volleyball? What was he supposed to do?
He had been looking forward to volleyball practice all summer, and he only got to practice for a few weeks before he made some stupid mistake and fractured his ankle.
"Tobio."
Kageyamas eyes followed the voice - his mothers voice. She was standing in the doorway of his room, arms crossed. Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at him
"You need to keep your ankle elevated." She scolded, placing a pillow under his ankle. She then set a glass of milk on his nightstand and sighed. "Honestly, you think your bones would be a bit stronger with all this milk you drink."
"They are strong!" Kageyama scowled, grabbing the milk and sipping it.
"Tsk tsk. You're always frowning, Tobio. Smile more."
"I'm not happy." He grumbled.
"You're so edgy." Kageyamas mother rolled her eyes and planted a kiss on his forehead. "Come eat when you're hungy, ok? I made us pork buns."
And with that, his mother left, closing the door behind her.
