4th October, 2015 (After the Murder).
11:15 PM.
‘Cm ovr. I need u.’ Sherylyn scoffed as she stared at the message from Nathan. He probably wanted a quick fuck. She felt a jolt of repulsion as she thought about what had happened earlier. He completely humiliated her, and chose Bethany over her. It was obvious he only wanted her body, with no strings attached, but that was disrespectful as fuck.
She lay back on her bed and stared at the ceiling. A shit colored stain stared back at her. She pulled back her phone to text a rude refusal, but her sleeping sister knocked it out of her hands.
“Stupid bitch. Get yo ass back on your side of the bed,” Sherylyn said as she pushed her away. Her sister mumbled incoherently and went back to sleep.
The room was stifling hot, and the air reeked of sweat. In a flash, Sherylyn changed her mind. So what if Nathan only wanted her body? She would keep giving it to him, but only if she got something in return.
She got out of bed, and tiptoed to her mother’s room. She needn’t have bothered, as Anne was passed out drunk, her baby bump ironically standing out in the dimly lit room. Sherylyn felt sorry for the unborn baby already. She searched the drawers for the family’s run down camera and smiled victoriously when she found it in the last one.
She got back to the room, and put her cell phone, wallet, camera and a change of clothes in an overnight bag. As she got out of the house, she zipped up her jacket to ward off the cold. With her mind firmly made up, she got on her bicycle, and rode to Nathan’s house. She resolved to be strategic in placing the camera as she wouldn’t want any mistakes. Sherylyn needed something to hold over Nathan’s head, and a huge sex scandal right before his father’s election was the perfect way to go. She was no fool, and knew the only way it could work was if she was smart about it.
When she got to the mansion, she noticed it was unusually silent. Sherylyn wondered where everyone was as she made her way to the wing of the house leading to Nathan’s room. She had barely knocked on his door when he yanked her arm, roughly pulling her in, and slammed the door behind the both of them.
“What the fuck Nate?” she complained, but stopped abruptly when she saw Bethany lying face down on his bed.
“I killed her. I didn’t mean to, I swear it. You believe me right? My dad’s gonna kill me,” Nathan’s words came out in a rush, and he was sweating profusely. He looked half mad.
He was still talking, but Sherylyn muted him in her mind, as she tried to make sense of the situation. It was all too much, too soon. Bethany was dead? It couldn’t be. It had to be some sort of nightmare.
“Sherylyn can you hear me?” Nathan asked fearfully as he shook her.
“I can, just give me a second,” she said as she put her hands on her head. She never, in her wildest dreams, expected this.
She stared at him and calmly asked, “Are you sure she’s dead?”
“Yeah, pretty sure. I did not mean to kill her Sheryl, I mean it.”
Sherylyn did not believe a word out of his mouth, but she didn’t say anything. She had to figure out the mess he had made. Bethany had been awful to her, but she was still her friend, and did not deserve to die so cruelly. She felt a surge of hatred at Nathan, but fought to restrain herself as she thought quickly. Nathan was completely at her mercy at the moment, but it could all turn on her if shit hit the fan. She knew how the world worked.
“Do you plan to call the cops?” she asked.
“Are you crazy? My life would be over the second I do,” he whispered hysterically.
