Skye’s POV
“Skyler Elizabeth Tucker! Get your ass down here now!” My dad called from the kitchen, I rolled my eyes and scoffed. I finished putting on my clothes and looked in my full length mirror. I was wearing my favorite white t-shirt with the alien on it, my black hoodie had cat ears and I had the sleeves rolled up to my elbows. My black skinny jeans were ripped up and I had on my black kneehigh sneakers. I finished putting on my eyeliner, braided my long black hair, grabbed my backpack and walked downstairs. I saw my brother Craig in the kitchen with my dad, they were yelling at each other. Tricia was waiting for Craig and I by the door, tapping her foot. I tried to get to the door without being noticed. Too bad I was born a clutz, not noticing my shoelaces were untied, I tripped down the last couple steps of our stairs. I landed on my face with a big thud, catching the attention of my dad and brother. My dad pushed Craig out of his way and stormed over to me, he yanked me up by my arm.
“Where’s my whiskey!? You stole it, didn’t you, you little bitch!” My dad screamed in my face, I sighed. Of course he didn’t remember. Craig ran over, yanked dad's hand off of me and stepped between dad and I.
“You finished the bottle last night you fucking alcoholic!” Craig yelled, defending me. They went back to screaming at each other, at this rate we would be late to our first day of our junior year at South Park High School. We moved to South Park, Colorado from LeClair, Iowa, it’s a small town with the population being around 3,800. It was just my dad, my twelve year old sister Tricia, and my twin brother Craig. Our mom passed away three years ago, that’s when everything went downhill for us. Dad immediately went to alcohol for comfort, he lost his job and started yelling and hitting us. Well, he would hit Craig and I, never Tricia, and we were thankful for that. Dad blamed Craig and I for our moms death, we needed new clothes and asked her to drive us to the store. On our way back, some asshole t-boned us, mom put her hand out in front of me, Craig was in the back seat. Our car rolled into a ditch, and ended up upside down. Craig and I were rushed to the hospital, we were fine but mom didn’t make it. A loud slap brought me out of my thoughts.
“Don’t talk back to me you little fag! I was talking to your slutty sister!” Dad had slapped Craig in the face, making him stumble a bit. I caught him from behind, I grabbed Craigs hand and made a dash for Tricia at the door. We slammed the door behind us and dropped Tricia off at the middle school and then continued to walk to our destination.
“Are you okay?” I asked my brother, he stayed silent. I took a moment to look him over, his black hair was hidden by his blue chullo hat. His bangs hung over his right eye, indicating he may have been hiding a forming black eye. He was wearing his favorite NASA shirt and a pair of black jeans, his favorite blue hoodie was around his waist. I looked back up to his cheek to see a red handprint. I sighed and we continued to walk in silence. We finally made it to school and walked to the front office to get our schedules, we were 15 minutes late. We found our first period class and stood outside the door. I held my hand in a fist, preparing to knock, I hesitated. Craigs hand went up and knocked instead.
“Craig! They could be learning something important!!” I silently cried out, my brother just looked at me with a straight face before rudely flipping me off. We started quietly bickering, we didn’t notice the teacher had opened the door and had been watching us in amusement. I sighed, great first impression, I thought to myself. Well, here we go. We stepped inside our new class, praying that things would be different at South Park.
