Tex's POV:
Teddy and I wait in the lobby of the mental institution, where we have just handed over Mary, who I'm betting is one of their craziest patients.
A doctor walks into the room, carrying a clipboard. He hands it to me and begins to explain its contents.
"This is just a basic form asking for your permission to let us, oh you know, treat the patients, test them, and, hm, if needed, euthanize, you know, simple stuff," he says, shrugging his shoulders as if to delicately lay this on us.
"Soun' chill, dog," Teddy says. The doctor is just about to hand him a pen, but I intervene.
"Wait, wait?" I say. "Euthenize?"
The doctor gives me a curt nod.
"Wait no! I just wanted her to suffer in here a little while, like as a joke! I don't want her to die, even if she is crazy!"
The doctor looks flustered, and so does Teddy, who was just earlier telling me how he wanted to get a tattoo that said "I hate Mary."
"Um, well we already had a table set up outside her room and we were pretty much ready, and you're getting rid of her anyways, so..." The doctor is obviously becoming irritated but, you know what, so am I.
"Let me see her before, then."
And so, he leads us back into narrow hallways towards Mary's room. Along the way we pass several other patient's rooms, and they are either screaming or banging on the doors to get out.
"This place is more like a torture chamber," I state.
"Oh, it is," the doctor says, and turns around to wink at me. I brush off his awkward gesture, puzzled.
We reach Mary's cell, and, like the doctor said, there is a table with several syringes placed out across it.
The doctor opens the door and let's me inside, and I close it behind me before he can follow in.
When I walk inside, what I see is disturbing. Mary is strapped onto a cot in a straight jacket. The room is empty mind one small square window on the wall opposite her.
She darts her head in my direction, staring at me with wild bloodshot eyes.
"Jeez, Mary, if I had known this was gonna happen I would never have..."
"You put me here?" She interrupts me with a raspy voice.
"Yeah I... I suppose I let my anger get the best of me. But Mary, they want to kill you. They have the lethal injection out there ready for you, so I think we should get the yaba daba doodle out of here, ya catch my drift?"
"Get me out of this bullcrap," Mary says, and bounces around to signify that her hands are immobile.
I quickly unbuckle her, several times glancing back at the door to check whether the doctor is watching us.
Once she is free, I look around for an exit and the only available one is the window... So we decide to break out.
The doctor catches a view of us, leaving, and immediately tries to get inside, but Mary begins to make thick twigs grow in the way of the door and we smash out through the window.
Once outside we run ferociously toward the fence, to hop over and get outta here, but suddenly blasting popping noises sound from behind us.
Are they... Shooting at us? Holy crap. There are guards up in towers pointing machine guns at our feet.
I assume all is lost, we will both be euthanized, but Mary takes my hand and lifts us off into flight. I am astonished as I dangle from her clutch, gazing at the grass below. We rise higher and higher and then blast off, away from the hospital.
The world whizzes by in a whirl of color, and it's somewhat magical. Mary takes us all the way back to Neverland, as if she had some sort of GPS that lead us there easily, or like she memorized the way there.
We land in the grass just inside the fence. There is awkward silence for a few moments, and I decide to break it.
"So... When did you become able to, uh, fly and grow trees and control fire and ice and stuff?"
"I just found out one day. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm some sort of a goddess," she tells me.
"Hm," I say, nodding.
"Tex," Mary says, and looks up at me blankly. I wait for her to say what she wants.
"I believe that Michael is still alive. And... If he is, he can only love me. No one else. And I am going to kill everyone in the world and turn them all into clones of me." She still stares with an absent expression, as if this is light news.
"Um. You can make clones too?"
She nods her head slowly.
"Will you kill me too...?"
She shrugs, then finally shakes her head.
"Fine, then," I say with an evil grin. Live dangerously, as I always say.
"Let's do it."
