I woke to a start the suns rays streaming in through the blinds. I ran my hands over my face trying to wipe the sleep from my eyes. My curly hair fell in my face as stretched my arms out. The sun warming up my chest. The sounds of the busy city just outside of my window caused a slight pounding in the back of my head. I sat staring blankly at the wall, an attempt at fully waking myself. I rolled over onto the other side of the bed, my feet touching the cold wood floor. I grabbed my glasses off the nightstand. I wrapped my hair into a tight bun atop my head, sliding a stray curl behind my ear. I could smell the aroma of cinnamon throughout the house and, knew my roommate was home.

She loved to have candles on in the morning. Each day was something different. Lavender when she was in need of safety. Fresh linen, when she was happy. The list goes on. But, I guess today was a spicy day. I wrapped myself in a robe and went towards the kitchen. The cool breeze of the AC sending a shiver down my back. I could hear Amy Winehouse playing as I neared. I could see her messing with the pot of boiling water and awaited my morning cup of tea.

"Good morning Sunshine!", she said as she made her way towards me. I allowed her to wrap me up into her arms. She was a morning person and id learnt to just accept it. She handed me a cup of tea and went back to the stove. Her yellow sun dress complimented her personality very well.

"Whats on the agenda?", she questioned as I took a sip of the tea. I closed my eyes as the warm liquid started to awake the rest of my body. She smiled as she slid a plate of sunny side up eggs in front of me. I thanked her before happily dipping my toast into the yolk. She twirled around the kitchen, eating fruit and cleaning dishes.

"I'll probably go and visit my dad. We haven't talked since mom passed.", i tensed at the mention of my mother.

Since I was a child I could remember her walking me to school. When I'd run home after kids would tease me of my extra thick glasses. She'd make time to tell me how beautiful I was. Even as cancer had started to change her, she made sure to always make sure I was taken care of. Attended every school function I had. She smiled on her off days and took great care of me. I never once felt in my childhood like I'd been neglected. I miss her deeply.

Life had been empty since she passed last summer. My dad and I's relationship had already been on thin ice even before she passed. We'd never clicked, and after my pregnancy scare in high school he mad it clear we never would. Her death should have brought us together but instead drew a line in whatever we had left. I was torn from my family. I had no one once she left. My dads family was very... different. They'd always made me feel like an outsider. I was the only mixed race child, and they made me well aware of it.

"Well i hope that goes well, I know how you guys relationship is." She must have seen my bummy mood and quickly changed the subject.

"Me and David are going to go to that new Sushi bar. You should come join us.", she said smiling.

"Bunny, you know I-"

"He's bringing some of his friends from work so you wont have to feel left out. I'd really enjoy it if you'd come.", she pleaded. "Plus, he really wants me to bring people important to me. And with my family out of the picture your the only person I care about.", she said pouting. I stared and then, after a few minutes, I gave in. She has that effect on you.

Bunny had been my only friend for awhile now and to say no to her was hard. She was a short plump blue eyed girl, red nosed and peppered with freckles. Her strawberry blonde hair always curled to frame her heart shaped face. An absolutely beautiful woman, with a soul to match. Almost complete opposites her and I.

"Well let me get ready to go and see my father. I'll see you later bunny." I said after washing and rinsing my plate. She waved her hand leaving me in the house as she headed to work. My thoughts scurried to the front of my head. I tried to push them down and popped a pill in response.
