I wake up and look at the clock. It's 5:30. I look at my phone. Someones calling me. Who is calling me at 5:30? I look at the number. It's probably a scam or wrong number. Wait I feel like I know this number. Looking at it gives me this weird feeling. Do I know this person or am I just going insane? I answer the phone.

"Hello is this Lexie Long."The person on the other end of the phone says. Can It be her? I haven't heard from her since 3rd grade.

"Mallory?" I question into the phone.

"Oh my gosh, Lexie I haven't seen you in so long," Mallory replies

"I've missed you so much," I smile.

"Guess what." She says and then before I can respond she continues. I just moved back from New Hampshire!" she exclaims.

       "Really?" I ask.

"Yeah, I just got to my new house. we could also talk more at school."

"I can't go to school for the next two weeks. I got suspended." I tell her. She was the only one I told about my cat and she promised to tell no one else to keep Mai safe. So she knows what would happen if my mom found out I was suspended.

"Oh... Wait, you can stay at my house while you're suspended. You should make your way now so we can catch up and I won't be late." she then texts me her new address.

"Thank you so much, Mal," I say.

"Bye I have to get ready for the day and so should you." she hangs up. Full of excitement I get out of bed and get dressed. I put on a grey and light blue long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

"Haven't worn these in forever" I say to myself.

I slip into my dark grey sneakers and brush my hair. I sneak down the creaking old stairs so I don't wake my mom up. Passing the dining room and making my way into the hallway. I grab my backpack and a couple of things like my sketchbook and make my way out the door.

I look at my phone and type the address she gave me into my GPS. It wasn't as far a walk as the school is to my house. The GPS estimates a 42-minute walk till I get to her house.

About 40 minutes later I walk on the empty road looking up for Mal's new house. It was still kinda dark outside though the sun was starting to rise. The sunrise, It looks like a perfectly blended painting filled with so many colors. Yellow, orange, pink, purple, magenta, and it all fades into a dark blue and purple. The sunrise gives me hope. Hope that one day I'll find my sun and they'll get rid of all the darkness and replace it with beautiful colors.

I look up and realize I'm close to her house. I look at her house and see her sitting on the steps. Her long brown hair in two ponytails and she's wearing a pink flower headband. She has freckles splattered above and next to her nose. She's wearing a long-sleeved black shirt with a heart outline made of plastic sparkles, dark blue jeans that went to right above her ankles, and gray sneakers with pink laces.

As I get closer she looks toward me and I see her same bright amber eyes as before. Her eyes widen when she sees me. She stands up and runs to me. wrapping her arms around me she then says.

"I've missed you so much." She then ends the hug and looks at me with a smile. "You got a haircut. I like it!" she says with an enthusiastic tone like always.

"Um.. thank you. I haven't seen you in so long!" I smile.

"Come come! I wanna show you my house," she smiles yanking my wrist and dragging me inside. "This way!" She drags me into a room filled with boxes." "This is the dining room and over there. She then points across the room to a wide doorway into another room. "That's the kitchen." She says to me, yanking my wrist and pulling me into a bigger room with a couch, a TV, and more boxes. "Living room." she yanks me back into a hallway. "That's the bathroom and that's a closet." She said pointing to the two doors. She then dragged me upstairs and into a room.

"This is my room!" she exclaims, putting both her arms in the air. On each side of the room, there's a twin bed with Maya blue comforters and pink rose pillows. Each bed had a white nightstand that had a drawer and cabinet. The nightstands each had a pink taffy faded to a sky blue lamp and an alarm clock. There's a super fluffy cotton candy-colored blue and pink rug on top of the birch floor. There's a white dresser with a TV on it and a Nintendo switch against the wall on the right side of the door that leads into the room. On the other side of the door, there's a vanity desk. The vanity is overflowing with art stuff and the walls have some drawings on them as well.

"Wow, you have a nice room," I smile, still examining the room. I then look at her.

"Thanks." She said with a smile. "The second bed is for if you ever want to stay over for the night." she then grabs her backpack which was hanging from the vanity chair. " Well, I gotta go to school. You can stay here just don't go snooping around and my mom doesn't come back from work until nine so don't expect her to be home," she said leaving the room. "Oh and if you need an excuse to tell your mom why your late home say you had an after school activity."

"I will and again thank you," I tell her.

"What are friends for," she says as she leaves the room and then the house. You know what good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you always know they are there.
