“Ty Lee?”

Ty Lee kept staring at the wall. It’d been so long since anyone had come to see her, let alone this visitor. After she quit working with the Kyoshi Warriors, she had hidden herself away here. As far away from the Fire Nation as she could get. Mai and Zuko had come to visit her a few times, even Suki came once or twice, but that was years ago. Now the one person she had been most reluctant to see had found her.

“Azula? Is it really you?”

“Yes.”

Ty Lee sighed. She must be dreaming again. Zuko told her that Azula had run off to erase her memories. He hadn’t been able to find her. No one would ever find her, which is part of the reason Ty Lee excluded herself from everything going on. Reality hurt too much and she was tired of being reminded that Azula was gone. Even though her old friends had stopped visiting, her dreams still reminded her of how cruel fate can be.

“Ty Lee? Can’t you turn around?”

Ty Lee shook her head and pulled her knees up to her chin. Maybe if she hid her face, the dream would end. It never worked, but she always tried. The dream was always different, but it was always just a dream. Sometimes Azula would smile and tell her that everything was okay and sometimes she would stay with her for the night, once Azula even kissed her. Ty Lee had turned away when that happened. She had actually cried because she knew it was all a dream, even though it felt so real.

“Ty Lee. You’re not dreaming. I’m really here and I’ve been coming here for the past year. Can’t you just believe that I’m actually here?”

Ty Lee knew that it was a trick. The dream Azula always liked to trick her. She used to fall for it because she was desperate for Azula to actually be with her, but then she would wake up and she’d be alone. It always killed her in the mornings. Sometimes she found it hard to get out of bed and she would just lie around all day, not bothering to eat or drink. Then there were the days when she’d drink too much, hoping that the dreams would stay away. They never did though. The dreams she had when she was drunk were always the happiest while she slept and the worst when she woke.

“Ty Lee. Please. I want you to believe me. I’m actually here. How can I make you believe me?”

Ty Lee shook her head. She had been hurt too many times to be fooled again. This was the last time that the dreams would get to her. She wasn’t going to suffer another dreadful morning. It would all be over soon. The morning wouldn’t come and the dream would fade away and she could be happy again. Maybe she would see the real Azula again. That would only happen if she was dead though.

“Are you alright Ty Lee? You seem sick.”

“You’re just a dream.”

Ty Lee closed her eyes and bit her lip. The shirshu venom was starting to take effect. She was told that too much venom would cause death and she hoped she was told right. Everything was beginning to hurt too much. It was almost Azula’s birthday, but this year it was too much for Ty Lee. She couldn’t bear the thought of celebrating again, without Azula actually being present. This year, she wouldn’t have to worry about being reminded about her friend being gone. She wouldn’t have to worry about anything for much longer. Ty Lee’s muscles relaxed and she fell backwards.
