Book one of the strong series
Chapter one: Jay's P.O.V
"Hurry up boys! Get out there!" My football coach called from the door of our change room as he entered. Most of us were almost finished getting dressed in our jerseys and white shorts, our uniform black Nike's shining, as our school had just received new ones a few weeks ago, when footy season began. I wasn't going to deny that I was gay. I had established that long ago, but I still didn't think that any of these guys were extremely hot or anything. They were average at best. But they were good players. Not the best friends, but they were good at what they did.
Running out of our changing room and onto the field, screams from the stands filled our ears, and I grinned. I loved footy. It was the one sport that I actually enjoyed as much as I loved listening to music.
We got in our positions, me as one of our three forwards. We also had four mids and two defense, plus our goalie, my best friend, jonah Davids. As soon as the game began, the ball was passed up to us forwards, and Dawson got to it quick. He was a short guy, and most of us towered him, but he was a good player. Plus, he passed to me a lot.
The ball came into my direction, and I dodged out of the way of a guy from the other team, a mid, to get at it.
In my corner vision, I caught sight of Rico delano up by the other teams net, waiting for me to get up there and pass to him. I was about to pass, when I was caught of gaurd by Dawson falling in front of me after being knowcked over, and the ball faultered from my line of sight as we fell.
In a tangle of limbs, me and Dawson struggled to stand. But after we did, we saw ash steal the ball back from the other team, passing it up to Rico, who sent it flying passed the goalie and into the net.

The ref blew the whistle, signaling the end of the game. We had won, at 18-10.
"Great job jay." A few girls congratulated me as the came up, and the lead, Emily, placed her hand on my chest and began to whisper in my ear.
"Do you want to, oh, I don't know... Come back to my house, for a little... Celebration?" She was attempting to sound seductive, but really, it just ruined my mood.
"No. I'm fine. I'm busy." I stated, walking off to the changing room for a quick shower.
After dressing, me and Jonah went outside to go to our cars, so we could make our way to my house, but my eyes drifted, landing on a boy that I had never seen.
"Who is that kid?" I questioned Jonah as we made our way around the building slowly. The boy was short, just below my shoulders, and had bright purple hair. His ears were pierced with black studs, and he wore a pair of red jeans and a black T-shirt, with a large hoodie overtop.
"Oh. That fag?" Began Jonah after he noticed who I was staring at. "Thats Alex. Moved here recently from the england. London kid I think. Makes sense, with the the freaks and fags running 'round there." I was tempted to tackle jonah at how he had described the poor kid, who was one a few meters away. He had no doubt heard our entire conversation .
"Shut it Jonah. He is not a fag!" I exclaimed angrily as I stepped up to Jonah and towered over him.
"What? I was just stating it how it is! Everybody knows hes gay! Its not as if he tried to hide it!" He replied, staring up at me.
"That doesn't give you the right to call him a fucking fag!" I gowled, and pushed him back. He stumbled, before storming away.
I looked around for the purple-haired boy, and caught sight of him running off, sobs racking his tiny body. I couldn't stand the sight of anybody feeling so sad. I knew what it was like. I ran after him, following his shadow as he ran behind the school, where people don't go very much.
I, for one had never been back here. Me and my friends tend to stay in the front of the yard at a picnic table, and none of us ever went off alone.
The back of the school was only a few meters away from a forest, and not much sun could get back here, so it was darker then in the front. I couldnt see the purple haired boy, but I heard him. As I walked along the wall, I noticed his bright purple hair standing out in the shadows. There was also a slight movement going on. I could feel the air shifting.
The boy was sitting down in the corner, his head bent down as he scratched and scratched at his arm. Which I could just barely make out. I sat down next to him, and sighed.
"Sorry about my friend Jonah. He's an ass." I stated matter-of-factly. The boy didn't reply. I stared at him, not knowing what to do. I wasn't used to other guys crying and hiding in a corner.
"Seriously. He's just rude. He doesn't understand that not everybody isn't going to be just like him. He grew up in a homophobic family, and agrees with them. He doesn't really care if he hurts people." I rested back against the wall, my legs crossed.
"Then... W-why do y-y-you c-care?" He stuttered out after a few moments.
"I don't know." I replied. "I really don't." I did know, at least a bit. I WAS gay, and the fact the fact that Jonah would call somebody a fag, was just awful. Gay is not an insult, and fag is just down-right demeaning to anybody. I straight-up hated the word.
He was still scratching at his arm, so I decided to devert him away from it. "Im jay." I stuck my hand out for him to shake, and after a moment, he removed his hand from his arms, and shook mine softly. But then I saw it on his fingernails.
Blood.
"I'm Alex." He spoke as he shook my hand.
"Show me your arm." I ordered him, my voice hard.
"What?" He looked udderly shocked. "Why?"
"Just show me your arm Alex." I clenched my teeth, angered.
He looked scared, but he turned his thin arm to face me. Hundreds of scars, cuts, bruises and burns lined his skin. Several cuts were bleeding in places from where he was scratching. I knew these marks. Because I had them myself.
