Chapter 3

Liz woke up to the sound of machine beeping and the voice of people talking. Her head feels light but she was pretty sure that her bedroom ceiling does not look this clean.

"She's awake!"

She blinked at the sudden sight of Cynthia's face looming over her with stark relief. "You gave us a fright!"

"What happened?" Liz asked groggily.

"You fainted," a deep, smooth but very familiar voice answered at the other side of the bed. Very reluctantly, she turned to the side and found Adam Kingsley peering down at her.

"That's not a dream, huh?" Liz said weakly and he stared at her with a frown.

"What dream?"

Cynthia sighed, knowing what she meant. "It's not a dream. You are pregnant and he wants you to marry after the baby is born."

"After the DNA test," Adam corrected and Cynthia nodded. "What he says."

Liz groaned as her head begin to hurt. "Where am I?"

"Hospital. The doctor said you are doing fine and just got a shock."

"I'm thirsty."

"I will find something for you to drink," Cynthia promised and left the room with a pointed look at Adam.

"Mr. Kingsley-"

"Adam."

"Pardon?"

"Just call me Adam."

"Ah, yes... Adam. I- I can't agree to marry you."

"Why?"

Liz stared at Adam, confused. "Why not?"

"Aren't you confident that the child is mine?"

"Yes, of course!"

"Then why are you refusing? Isn't that what you want? To have your son's father in his life?"

"No, I don't want to marry you. You could still be our child's father without marrying me." Liz insisted and Adam stared at her as if she had just grown a tail or something.

"Woman loves money and if you marry me, you will be rich."

"What?" Liz stared up at him in disbelief as anger brewed in her. She sat up without much difficulty and glared at him. "I agree that I do love money, but I don't marry a man just for money! When I marry, I'll marry a man that I love, not a man that I have a child with after one night stand!"

"You aren't? The reason why you talk to me that night because you knew who I am and hoping to reap benefits from me, isn't it?"

Liz's eyes saw red and she grabbed her pillow and hit him with it. But she did not stop with just that. Oh no, she would not let him escape with just one hit for insulting her!

"You," hit "are," hit "a," hit "jerk!"

She would have continued hitting him if he had not grabbed onto the pillow and wrestled it away from her. He looked furious; his neatly combed hair was messed up and he was planning to give her a good yelling when he saw the tears.

Her large blue eyes were staring at him accusingly for hurting her as tears keep on rolling down her cheeks.

"I'm not some money crazed woman that would marry a rich man just for money! Money doesn't bring love or happiness for me even if I need it to survive! I rather live in a small apartment with an average income because I am happier that way. So I wouldn't sell myself just for money!"
