The sound of my alarm makes me open my eyes to see Gin, my mums cat standing on my bedside table."Good morning beautiful" I lean over to give her a pat but she scurries off before I get the chance to touch her fur. A groan leaves my lips as I slam my head back onto my pillow, trying to convince myself to get out of bed.
Today was no different to any other day. I would wake up for my 9am lecture followed by my 11am class and be home by 1pm. Today's schedule was easy and quick, I then had all afternoon to do whatever I wanted. Nine times out of Ten that meant lying in bed and watching Grey's Anatomy.
"Selena, get up. You need to drop Nina to school before you leave" I let a groan leave my lips again, this time loud enough for my mum to hear in the kitchen. I checked my phone again and it was 8:10am. I should get up and get ready if I want to make it on time.
I rolled out of bed and walked over to my wardrobe. Today felt like a pair of jeans and an oversized jumper kind of day. I tied up my converse and grabbed my bag before heading into the kitchen.
My mum and my sister, Nina were sitting at the kitchen counter. Mum was trying to help Nina with her homework, but Nina knew that if she acted stupid and left it to the last-minute mum would just get frustrated and write it for her. She was in her last year of high school and honestly nothing has changed since she started bringing homework home in primary school.
"Are you almost done? Because I need to leave" I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and put it in my bag.
"Yep, I'll just grab my bag and will meet you in the car" Nina then grabbed her book off the kitchen bench and leant over to give mum a kiss before walking towards her room.
"Thanks for taking her. I have a big meeting over the phone with my publisher at 8:30, fingers crossed my book is almost ready to go on the shelves." My mum was a writer I guess you could say. She is a single mum that worked two jobs just to keep the house and put food on the table for Nina and I after our dad passed away. Then one day she decided to write a book and it got published, made her enough money to quit her jobs and stay at home. This is now her third book and she honestly deserves it.
"That's okay, I'm already heading that way" I see Nina walking down the stars so I give mum a kiss and head to the door.
"Have a good day you two" Nina and I turn around and yell a, "you too" back before walking out the door and jumping into my little Suzuki Swift.
I drive Nina to the front of Vanguard High School, my old school. I only graduated last year and I could not imagine ever going back. I honestly have no idea how I use to get up and go to school for 6 hrs, 5 days a week. Now I barley go to college 3 days and that's a struggle.
"Have a good day, do you need a lift home?" I asked as Nina jumps out of my car already waving over to her friends.
"No I think I am going back to Jessica's. I'll see you tonight though" I nod my head and start to reverse my car as soon as she slams my door closed. I drive out of the parking lot and towards the University of Houston.
I pull into an empty car spot and grab my bag from the back seat. It's my seventh week as a 1styear Literature student and so far I have made one friend. Which does not seem like a lot but I still have my high school friends that I see time to time. I think I would have made more friends if I went to some of the parties but my boyfriend does not exactly like the idea of drunk teenagers dancing and doing drugs.
I walked into my lecture and sit down in the far back right hand corner. I try to stay out of the lecturer's site because I don't want to be asked questions or be asked to participate. I pull out my MacBook and open up a clean word document. As I sink into my chair to wait for the lecture to begin, I feel my phone vibrate from my back pocket. I pick it up to see that Jason texted me.
