a feeling like the rising ocean. blue, aqua;

her name was written gracefully on the dusty, old notebook. the ink seeped onto the page.

monika

monika

monika

sayori wanted to know what this feeling was. the exhilaration and denial, the heart racing and rushing.

"sayori. hey, dummy. ya zoned out again, silly goose." a high-pitched, joking voice came. sayori jumped. she giggled nervously, trying to mask the 'nervously' part. "heyaa, natsuki!" she put on a grin. "what are you writing in your notebook?" the short girl asked out of curiosity.

oh god, what am i supposed to say? will she tell her? she'll know. I've probably already made it obvious. why do i always have to mess up?

"u-um, homework." sayori managed to stammer out. natsuki wrinkled her nose. "why? we don't have homework this week."

"extra homework from sensai kobishi's homeroom."

"i see. but you don't have to hide from me that you have a crush on mmmm-"

sayori instinctively rushed to cover natsuki's mouth "meanie!"

yuri, the long-haired girl reading a book looked up. "natsuki, please. sayori doesn't have time for this immaturity." the hothead opened her mouth in anger but then hesitated. "whatever. where's monika?"

"sorry i'm late, everyone!" monika stood at the door, opening her green eyes, which caused sayori to look in awe. she'ed seen a million times but they enchanted her every time.

"squid! what took so long? also speak of the devil" natsuki waved at monika- squid was her platonic affectionate nickname, as 'ika' meant squid.

"she's not the devil!" sayori piped up.

"it's a figure of speech." yuri sighed. she flipped the page of her book, immersed in the world created by the words.

monika placed her bag by the door. in sayori's eyes everything monika did was absolutely lovely. she loved her, but didn't know why. monika would never return the feeling. she just wanted to know how it felt to be with someone forever, supporting each other through everything, wouldn't that be nice? it must be nice.

"sayori, dear, you seem distant and a bit in thought, may you tell me what's going on?" little did monika know the ocean-eyed girl wanted to be anything but distant. "nothing, i just don't have a lot to say." that was a lie. she had heaps she wanted to say, too much in fact. "i'm just watching a cloud." sayori gave a small but genuine smile. "alright, I'll go check on yuri and nat."

to pass time, sayori held a notebook and a pen, drawing the same ponytailed girl, over and over, unable to blend a soft viridescent eye. oh, how she yearned for monika. all she wanted was to be more than friends, why hasn't monika noticed sayori's love? so sayori made a decision. she was going to tell monika how she felt. she texted natsuki first

she closed her phone and smiled. she knew this could go wrong, but she didn't care. she's going for it.
