Chapter Two

I sit down in the lobby, looking around at the other people trying to get a job. There are a couple of people talking in the corner, all about my age.  There is an older woman in the corner, maybe about twenty years old. There are a couple others, sitting around the room, waiting for their interview. Right now I'm waiting for my interview at the food distribution center, where, if I get the job, I will handle food rations. Not the best job, but it's better than many.

When it's my turn to go, I walk into the backroom with the manager and answer a couple of questions my school and qualifications. In the end I get a paper slip saying that basically they'll consider me  but it might be a no. I head to the next place on my list, the hospital. There there is a much shorter wait, probably because those who are exposed to poisons are brought to the hospital, and sometimes (most times) the poison travels with them on their clothes. Basically, working in the hospital is dangerous.

I talk to the worker who is interviewing me, and they say that i have a very high chance of getting a job at the hospital. To tell the truth, I would rather work at the hospital than the food distribution center. Not because I like the thrill of danger, or anything, just because I'd like to make a difference, and that's a lot easier to do at a hospital. They give me another slip of paper saying that I might get the job, and I head to the next place.

When I reach the factories, where I'm applying next, I  sit down in the waiting room, prepared for a long wait. After about two hours, I decide that I really don't need to apply here, I already have two maybes, one of which is practically a yes. I grab my things and leave, prepared for a long day. We get our job results at six tonight, and it's only noon right now. I head home, and when I get there I plop on my couch hoping to fall asleep. I do.
