Liora

When I was born the world changed. As to what I have been told there has always been magic and supernatural creatures, such as vampires, werewolves and witches. Incidentally, just like there are good and bad people, there are good and bad supernatural creatures; which lead things to take a turn for the worst.

A war suddenly broke out when two very powerful supernaturals fought for whom would take control of the land and in the process it killed most of the human population; including my parents. I was then taken and placed under the care of the royal vampire family. This king wanted to rule the kingdom and keep peace for everyone living in it. Of course, the other king did not agree, and  so now the land is split in two.

One side is filled with very dark people, wanting to rule just for power, to get rid of all of the humans because to them they are seen as weakness. The other side is filled with people of power, but with kind hearts; and that is were I am gratefully at.

The sun had just risen not too long ago but as soon as I stepped outside, I smiled, feeling it's rays warm my skin. The sky is a beautiful shade of blue, with a few white clouds and birds chirping sweetly in the distance.

"Good morning Miss Liora." A voice speaks to my left. I turn my head, smiling at the women watering a pot of violets by the door, that I just walked out of.  She is wearing a brown dress with her blonde hair tied back into a low bun.

"Good morning." I reply before turning and continuing on my way across the gravel, seeing a few baby chicks running past me a few feet away.

"Good morning Miss Liora." I glance up from the basket hanging from my arm, and spot the horse keeper, combing through a white horse's main outside the barn shed; while another few workers were moving by with trash bags, wood and hay.

"Hello Tom. How are you?" I ask as I continue to walk but slow my pace a little.

"Good, thank you." He smiles making his blue eyes crinkle. "Happy morning?"

"It is." I reply with a nod, looking down at my feet.

The morning just started so who knows what will happen.

Approaching the chicken pen I crouch down and open the door making one of the hens jump down from her small nest.

"Oops, sorry." I giggle. "Didn't mean to frighten you."

Gently reaching in, I grab the egg that was resting where she was.

"What a beautiful shell. Good job." I smile, placing the egg into the basket on my arm. As soon as I gathered most of the eggs, I place the latch back on the door and stand up.

I turn and begin to walk slowly, adjusting a few eggs in the basket so they don't fall, as I do, I hear a horse nay behind me. I look back over my shoulder and smile, seeing my beautiful best friend with her head sticking out of the stable window.

"Hi Penelope." I smile, walking over to her, reaching up to run my hand gently down her long neck, feeling her white coat beneath my fingers." Did you think I forgot about you?"

Placing my basket carefully down on the ground by my feet, I reach into the pocket of my dress and pull out a fresh carrot.

"Here you are." I mutter gently, placing the carrot by her mouth. Penelope gladly opens her mouth and takes a bite before taking the whole thing from me. I let out a small giggle and lean forward pressing a kiss on her cheek.

"Liora!" A voice calls from the kitchen.

"Coming!" I call back before turning back to Penelope. "I'll see you later beautiful."
