"What... is this?" You asked, completely bewildered by the tiny item in your hand. As you observed the creation, you couldn't help but to admire the fine detailing present in the clay. It was simply a miniature bird in all white, but other than that you couldn't understand why the boy had presented it to you.
Said 'boy' in question regarded you with a brilliant grin as his blue eyes shone in the sun. "It's art!" He looked so excited and yet you were completely lost.
"Yes, I understand it's art, but why did you give it to me?" You asked as you looked up at the giddy blonde. He bounced on his heels as if it were the most amazing thing he had ever seen.
"That's just one of your birthday gifts, un. I have more to show you, but first I wanted to show you a new technique I learned," he said quickly, breathless. "What do you say, hm?"
You blinked once, twice. A new jutsu? How interesting! You always enjoyed learning about the new things your old friend could come up with. He was already a formidable ninja, so you were sure that whatever he was about to show you would be amazing. A grin appeared on your own face, and you quickly handed it back over to him. "Yes! Show me, show me!"
His cheeks reddened faintly, and he regarded you with an uncharacteristically soft look before his former expression returned. He gestured for you to take a step back, and you obliged him without complaint. You wondered what he could have possibly created with just clay. You gazed at the small piece of shaped clay in admiration, and hoped that you would get to keep it after his display as a memory.
He tossed it up into the air, and you watched him form a sign you had never seen before. After a quick exclamation, a bright explosion formed only meters away, and your gift was gone.
You hadn't realized you were crouched down with your hands over your head until you heard his signature chuckle. It grew to be a fit of laughter as you stared at him in a mixture of wonder and terror. Your ears rang slightly, but fortunately it went away after a moment. He wiped a tear from his eyes and looked down at you.
"Hm? You didn't like it? Now that's true art, un!"
You were convinced your friend had completely lost his mind. "But— You blew it up, Deidara!" You said, floored by his response.
"That's the point! Pretty great, hm?" He knelt down beside you before he placed his hand on the top of your head. It was hard to argue with him otherwise when the expression on his face had you completely charmed. Your heart fluttered in your chest, and he took one of your hands. A strange moist sensation grazed your palm, and your amorous thoughts were replaced with shock as you yanked your hand away with a yelp.
"What was that? Gross— did you sneeze before grabbing my hand?" You grumbled as you eyed your palm. You hastily wiped the residue away and looked back up to him, but he had turned his head away with a distinct pout.
"They're not gross, I'm... There was something else I wanted to show you, too." Slowly, he extended his open palms out to you. You stared at them in an effort to figure out what he was talking about, and promptly squealed when the folds of his hands separated.
"Deidara, you're— you're... what is that?"
Mouths! He had mouths in his hands. Finally, you both stood up, your arms crossed over your chest. He rubbed the back of his head, and you spotted sweat on his skin. You couldn't tell if he was nervous, or if it was due to another hot day in Iwagakure. Maybe it was both, you decided. You felt that personally if you had mouths on your palms all of a sudden you would also be pretty nervous about the oddity being exposed.
