NANA

"YOU BITCH!"

I dodged the beer bottle that was flung towards me. It was my father and mother fighting again. It was in the middle of the night and I had came downstairs to a sound of glass breaking. My two siblings were 'sleeping'.

I tried to stop them, but resulted in my father throwing his empty beer bottle at me. He was obviously drunk. This was 'normal'. I picked up the pieces of broken glass with my bare hand. I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw my mother crying in the kitchen.

I closed my eyes for a brief moment as a piece of glass had sliced my skin. It hurt, but not as much as the emotional pain I had been feeling for the past years. It couldn't even compare to it. I picked up the rest of the pieces and threw them away in the kitchen. I stood and stared at my mother for a second before heading upstairs to my siblings bedroom.

The door creaked open and I saw them sound asleep. I walked over to the both of them. I leaned down to Ayako and kissed her forehead. I moved a strand of her grey hair, the same as my mine.

I then leaned over to Yuki and also kissed his forehead. I smiled as I heard him laugh in his sleep. A tear streamed down my face. I was going to miss them so much. I bit my bottom lip to keep me from whimpering. I got up and walked to my bedroom silently.

I laid down on my bed waiting until it was time to go. I just laid there thinking while looking up at my white ceiling.

What happened to the sweet memories we once had?

What happened?

Why did it end up like this?

Can we go back to the past?

When it was the happy times.

More tears streamed down my face. Soon, my phone dinged.

It was a text message from my aunt in Japan, whom I will be staying with for the rest of my life. I will be running away from this broken family. The family that once relied on each other, but are now just broken glass.

"Are you ready?" It read. I looked over to my alarm clock beside my bed. It was now exactly 3:45am. I will be leaving forever in exactly fifteen minutes.

"I'm ready." I sent. I got up from my bed and walked over to my closet. I pulled out my suitcase. It had all my clothes inside and my essentials. I silently picked it up and headed to the door. I looked back once last time at the empty room with just a bed and dressers.

I wiped the last tear that fell from my eye. I looked outside and saw that everything was dark and that my parents must be sleeping. I walked down the stairs with my suitcase.

My hand touched the doorknob. I closed my eyes for a brief moment. "Goodbye California." I mumbled and turned the doorknob.

It was dark outside except for the little moonlight and the stars that were really bright. A car was waiting outside for me. It was my best friend who was going to drive me to the airport. I was ready with my ticket and passport in my hand.

I put my suitcase in the trunk of her car and hopped inside her car. Her name was Leah, she was a year older, so she was seventeen years old and had her drivers license already.

"So you're really doing it, huh?"

"Yeah."

Right at that moment, it started to rain. It gave me a gloomy feeling. As if I wasn't already sad enough. "Lets just go." I told. She sighed and started the car. It was a long ride to the airport. I stared out the window, watching the droplets of rain stream down the car window as if they were my own tears. I didn't dare to cry in front of my best friend, it would just make her feel even more saddened and I didn't want that.

I bit my bottom lip to stop me from shedding another tear. I bit it so hard that I think it started to bleed. I could taste the blood from my lip.

"We're here." She spoke making me snap back to reality. She grabbed her big umbrella that she usually keeps in her car and opened the car door for me and my suitcase. She handed it to me and walked me inside the airport.

We had gone through all of the processes at the airport and waited until it was finally time to leave. Leah looked at me and I could see her tears well up in her eyes. I walked up to her and embraced her in a warm hug. She sobbed in my shoulder. We grew up with each other and now I was about to leave her, because of my selfishness.

"I'm sorry..", I mumbled as more tears fell. "I'm so sorry." It made her sob even harder. "I'm going to miss you so much!" She sobbed. "I-I know.." I finally pulled away from our long hug. It would probably be our last.

Finally, my plane was called. Leah watched me as I walked away. Tears were falling from her eyes. I wiped the tears from my eyes and proceeded to my plane that would be taking me away forever.

I handed my ticket and sat in my seat. I closed my eyes, slowly falling asleep.

A 'Good'bye.
A 'Good'bye for me.

I'm so selfish.

They will hate me forever.

They depended on me and I just left them.

I deserve this for being so selfish.

I shouldn't say goodbye.

More like, bye.

It's not a 'good'bye.

The thoughts I dreamt about.

I woke up and it was time to leave. I was in Japan. It was currently around 3pm in Japan. I walked outside. The sun was shining on me.

I took a big breath of Japan's fresh air.

My new beginning starts here..
