CHAPTER 4 – THE TRAINWRECK OF A HEART
That morning.
“Good morning. I’m going first,” Hyungwon muttered, not sparing a glance at the person busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen. Her steps were slow, eyes sunken from lack of sleep.
“Hyungwon honey, are you going alone today? Don’t you want to go with Hoseok?” Kihyun’s sweet voice echoed from the kitchen.
At the mention of his name, Hyungwon froze and turned, eyes gleaming like a predator spotting prey.
Her heart throbbed.
Without answering, she left.
At the Terminal
It was chaos. People everywhere. Hyungwon stood among the crowd, looking like a lost little girl. Even though she had arrived early, she still missed the first train—unable to sneak in like everyone else.
Just for context: this was her first time doing anything "normal."
Back in the wizarding world, Hyungwon didn’t need public transport—she could just fly.
But now, because of that stupid deal, she had to enroll in a regular human school. No magic. No shortcuts. And no revealing her identity as a magician to the ordinary world.
“There are too many people. I’ll wait for the next one,” she sighed, shoulders slumped.
And… she failed again.
“ARGHHH! How long do I have to wait?!” she yelled, nearly yeeting her innocent little bag.
“Yah! What are you doing?!”
A hand grabbed her wrist.
Hyungwon turned sharply. “You—!!”
“Huh. Always this tense?” Hoseok raised a brow, still holding her wrist.
Hyungwon pulled her hand away, crossing her arms. “Mind your business.”
“Try harder. You’ll be late,” he said smugly, looking down at her.
She wanted to argue, but before she could, he yanked her forward—right into the next train.
Inside the Train
“I can’t breathe…” Hyungwon whimpered. Her tiny frame was squished between strangers. Everyone around her was tall—giant even. Okay… maybe not giants, but taller than her.
Then, again, Hoseok pulled her closer.
“Ah! Hoseok—!”
“Shhh,” he whispered.
The train was packed, but somehow Hoseok managed to shield her. One hand gripped the pole, the other gently rested on her shoulder—holding her close.
Her head… was resting against his chest.
From a distance, they probably looked like lovers.
Hyungwon’s cheeks turned red.
“Hoseok… what are you doing?” she whispered, her small hand pressing against his chest.
“Shut up. Don’t move,” he whispered back—firmly but quietly.
He pulled her even closer.
Hyungwon’s back hit the train wall. Now she was completely in his arms.
“I’m just helping. You looked like bibimbap. All mixed up, shorty.”
“I’m… not that small…” she murmured, still blushing.
“I bet you’re the shortest girl in school,” he smirked.
Hyungwon stayed quiet.
After the Train
As they got off, Hoseok asked, “Do you remember what you’re supposed to say if someone asks about us?”
“Of course! What do you think I am?” she snapped.
“I’m Hoseok’s twin sister who studied abroad,” she mimicked in a mocking tone. “But why twins?”
“Pabo. Because we’re the same age!”
Suddenly...
“Hey—wait!” Hyungwon looked around.
Hoseok had already walked ahead.
She panicked.
Turning in circles, she couldn’t find him.
The crowd was too much. He was getting farther and farther.
Until—he disappeared.
“Wonho…” she whispered.
Suddenly, a Hug
“Tsk. So annoying. You can’t even do something this simple.”
A familiar voice. A pair of arms pulling her close.
Hyungwon burst into tears. She had been terrified.
A quiet laugh.
“Weren’t you the one acting all brave earlier? The one who didn’t want to come with me?” Hoseok teased.
Hyungwon clenched her fists—not from anger, but from pure embarrassment. She was crying in front of her enemy.
She refused to look up—until Hoseok gently lifted her chin.
Their eyes met.
And softly, he wiped her tears.
Her heart fluttered wildly…
...but then—
“PFFFFFT!! You’re so ugly when you cry!! PWAHAHAHA!!” Hoseok laughed loud enough for everyone to turn.
Hyungwon shoved his hand away, face burning red.
“Oh my gosh… what am I expecting from this guy?” she muttered.
Still snickering, Hoseok held out his hand.
“Here. Don’t let go this time. You’ll get lost again.”
Hyungwon hesitated… then took it.
“Good girl,” he said, patting her head. “Alright, kajja. We’re late.”
Just before they left, Hyungwon saw something.
Hoseok smiling.
Not his usual teasing grin.
A sincere smile.
And she…
froze.
...
…
…
“Mwoya?! What is this?? My heart—why are you acting like this?!”
