[ marriage diaries, the family festivities - 1 ]
Arjun holding the sleeping toddler in his arm while his elder brother took care of their bags, both walked out of the airport and waited at the stand. Feeling the colder weather, the little kid snuggled closer to her uncle's warmth whining softly as he rubbed her back, when Aditya took out one warm safety sheet and wrapped the little one in.
"Bhai, we have reached the place, but where will we find someone to pick us up, at this time? I can't see any tax...", he didn't get to finish his sentence that a white Ambassador stopped in front of them. "Sir, taxi?", the middle-aged driver rolled the window down and asked looking at the two men standing alone with a baby.
Aditya nodded his head and indicated the given address, as the older man helped with their luggages in the trunk, before they all settled in the car. The father holding his kid who was stirring uncomfortably in his arms. "We're almost there, baby. Shhh! So jaa, meri jaan.", he whispered in her ear, rocking her against his chest, and she calmed at the soothing talks of his. (Sleep, my love)
Within twenty minutes of drive, they reached the residence attached to the venue, where stayed the bridegroom's family and relatives, along with the Zosh team. It was getting dark at this late hour in the evening, and the building was shining with the festive lights and decorations all around, a few rooms lighted up in the upper floors.
"Here, you go, bhaisaab. Thank you very much, go home safe.", paying the driver off, they stood up and looked at the bungalow.
Zoya was preparing their clothes for the next day, as she needed to be ready for the double work, when she took the baby set of lehenga —a cotton-made yellow top with orange flower patterns with a trail of pearl around the waist part, a plain orange skirt with a net layer, and a pale pink dupatta with a yellowish embroidered border. She held the dress up and smiled emotionally, imagining her little baby wearing it.
"Come fast, baby. Mumma is waiting to hold you again.", she talked on her own to the dress. "If Aditya would have told the flight time, I would at least go to receive them. But no, he decided to leave me get even more impatient."
She pouted childishly as she stood up and hung the dress on the cupboard knob before walking in the bathroom for a hot shower.
"Hello... yeah, okay. I am coming downstairs.", Noor cut her phone and ran downstairs, while the elder group of people were busy talking and laughing in the huge garden at the backside, a set of cups and tea placed adding more to their elders' time.
"Noor beta, where are you going? Who is there at this time?", Roshnaq asked seeing her younger daughter walking to the door, as she came out of the kitchen with more snacks. "Your smallest special guest, ammi."
The mother smiled understandingly and leaving the tray on the coffee table, she joined her young daughter to receive the trio at the doorstep.
"Oh, hi, ammi. Seems like we kept you up too, sorry.", he held his earlobe with his free hand as she chuckled shaking her head. "Not at all, beta. It's a marriage place, no one sleeps this early. Please, come."
They walked in the house and the elder woman called for a worker to get their bags. "Raheem bhai, please put these bags in the guest room."
Sending the servant upstairs, she looked back at the young men. "I am really happy to see you both here, especially you, Arjun beta. It would have been nicer to see your parents, but at least you came."
