It's been like this for I don't even know how long now. Working here, in this massive house, the only maid. My childhood and my parents? Barely even remember anything. It was a blur of a life up until I applied to work for the Bae family. After my parents died in a plane crash when they were going on a business trip, I was left with the money they had left, I was 12.

I was seemingly able to learn how to grow up and become independent considering I had no other family to live with after they passed away. I turned out somewhat okay, but with no idea what I was supposed to with myself after high school, and running out of my parents 'inheritance', which means I won't be able to extend rent on the house for much longer,  it would be safer for me to find a job then to build up a bunch of college fees I already won't be able to afford with the money I do have.

I found the advertisement for becoming the house maid for the Bae family just as I was graduating high school, and even though it wasn't the most glamorous job, it ticked the boxes I at least needed to continue living somewhat comfortably. I could live in a separate wing of the house, my living arrangement handled, the pay was decently above minimum wage, and although I was going to be the only maid, meaning I'll be handling all cleaning duties, and there wasn't going to be much time for me to gets days off or leave, I had no intention of really going anywhere, and I never got to make friends along the way growing up too, being too focused on surviving on my own. This also meant less opportunity to date and have a life of my own, but again, I have no intention of doing any of that.

When I got a job interview opportunity from Mr. Bae, I don't know what he saw in me, or if he was pitying me and my situation, but I was able to land the job. Their previous maid, Kwon Boa, was finally retiring due to age and I was a good young replacement apparently. Before she left, she of course taught me how to handle everything, their preferences, where things go, how things work, if anything needs to be done by a certain time and how to prioritise tasks. It was a big panic for a while, but she told me to just take it one task at a time, and that she didn't learn all of this in one go either.

What I wasn't expecting was what she warned me of next. The daughter and heir of the Bae family, Bae Joohyun, better known as Irene, the little monster. Mr. and Mrs. Bae were some of the most wholesome and sweet people I could ever know, not that I knew a lot of people, but they were very kind, and genuinely did seem like they were. However their daughter is, dare I say, quite the spoilt brat, and I don't even think it's because I have it harder than her, she just really came off that way.

Due to seniority and age difference, she has backed off Ms. Kwon over time, but when she was still a kid, she would be very spiteful and demanding to her, and Ms. Kwon let it go as she thought it would just be a phase in her young life, but later noticed that it continued as she grew up, and began to show in her actions and choices in life. Now in her late teens, and is actually the same age as me, she is still quite impolite and cutthroat to Ms. Kwon, but not through yelling and tantrums like when she was a kid, but she wouldn't speak formally, and sometimes would be vague in what she wanted done, had unreasonable expectations and deadlines for when she needed anything done.

Ms. Kwon told me to be thankful that I don't have Choi Siwon's job, which is being the family butler. Although I'd have to work with him on occasion, when it came to preparing food and sometimes setting up for meetings Mr. or Mrs. Bae would have at the house, and possibly any parties and other things, his responsibilities and possible tasks that are asked from the Bae family are basically limitless, whereas my role will most definitely just be cleaning. She said that Mr. Choi has had to go to great lengths to do the things that Irene would want, and even though he is older than Ms. Kwon, the same cutthroat demanding tone would still reign down.
