Mary opened her eyes to the vast stream of sun overhead. Sitting up she realized that she was not in the same place she was before. She looked around and spotted a women sitting in her chair staring at her with wondering eyes. Everything came back to Mary as soon as she looked at the women. Samuel left her because of this women. Because of this women sitting before her she could never be with Sam again. Her bottom lip trembled as she tried to hold back tears. No. No women should cry over a man that doesn't even love them. It would be wrong and pitiful.
Mary stood up and walked away with her head held high. Even though she was breaking inside she couldn't show it. No weakness.
"Mary?" The old womens sweet voice called from behind her. Mary stopped dead in her tracks.
"Please stay. Your brother was here earlier an-"
"I know he was here earlier and if I wish to know anything I shall bring it up with him. I would never stoop so low as to talk to you. I do not wish to hear anything from you. Good day."
"Mary. He is not worth your time. I should know. I have lived a great deal-"
"A great deal? You have been stuck up in this hut for who knows how long. What kind of a person does that? You are scum to me."
"You shouldn't talk to your elders in such a way."
"I shall speak to you however I wish." And with that Mary quickly walked away without a second glance. But just before she was out of hearing range she heard the womens voice nice and low. "Carma." was all she said. Carma...

Once Sir Samuel and Sir Matthew were alone Sam spoke. He expressed in great detail his encounter with Mary. He spoke of her as if she was nothing more than a fly. And Matthew hung onto every word. Once he was finished Matthew patted his friend on the back and said he was right to do what he did.
"Matthew I have a need of you."
"And may I ask what that might be?" Said Matthew as he put his feet up on the stool.
"Tell everyone that Mary and her family are scoundrels. Ridicule them. Now go. I want the news out to everyone by tomorrow." Already knowing Sir Matthew would do as he said he stood and made his way to the door...
