Ashkii's P.O.V.
Oh my god. No...she can't. She can't leave me. She's the best thing I have. I grabbed the bottle away from her and opened the window, throwing the pills out there somewhere.
I quickly picked her up bridal style and ran down the stairs to outside, setting her in my backseat. I drove quickly to the hospital and carried her in there.
"Help! I need help please!" I yelled and a nurse ran up to me. "Please, help her. She swallowed a lot of pills, trying to overdose." She nodded before calling more people over with a gurney and having me place her on it.
Before I could say anything else, they ran back towards the surgery rooms, shouting at each other. I ran my hands through my hair, no doubt making it look like a mess as usual. Tears streamed down my face as I thought about how she got in this situation.
This was my fault. It all is. If I hadn't taken the stupid bet in the first place, she would've been okay. She could've been happy, maybe even have met someone better for her. But, she got stuck with me. I loved her too much to let her go.
I decided it would've been best if I got her mom here. I took out my phone and called her mom, explaining what happened, but leaving out the part of why she ran from the prom. She immediately said she'd be here in five minutes before hanging up.
I sat down in the seat that was in the corner of the waiting room before taking off the jacket part of my tux. I loosened my tie and unbuttoned the first three buttons before putting my head in my hands, lacing my fingers in my hair.
This wasn't supposed to happen to her. I let my ego get the best of me and look where it got us. She was supposed to be happy, graduate in honors because she is the smartest person I know. She was supposed to find the perfect guy that would make her happy and treat her right.
But instead she got me and the bullshit she's in now.
Not three minutes later, her mom came in the waiting room and went up to the counter. She said a few words to the lady and the lady answered back before Jessamine's mom turned to me and walked towards me with tears in her eyes.
"Thank you Ashkii for calling me." She said, gently taking a seat beside me.
"Of course. You're her mom." I answered, my voice cracking slightly.
I looked back down to the ground and ran my hands through my hair. I heard her sigh before she started to cry again. I listened as she let out strangled sobs and blew her nose in something. I would say something, but I'm honestly speechless.
"I just..." She started, letting out another sigh, making me look to her. "I thought you would've helped her. I mean, she was so miserable before. When the incident happened with her father she had major trust issues and she didn't leave her room for a whole week. And then I....the other incident happened, and I thought it would never be the same."
"I try so hard to fix her because I know it's partly my fault. And then you started talking to her, and I thought she was better. She was happier with having you around all the time. Then this happens, it breaks my heart." She said, more tears running down her face.
"I'm sorry I couldn't fix her." I said barely above a whisper but I knew she heard me, the room was dead silent as it is. She didn't say anything for a while and neither did I. I didn't want to speak anymore.
I was glad we were leaving it as we did, but then she started talking.
"I'm getting quite thirsty. Would you like anything?" She asked, her voice weak. I found that as an excuse to get out of here, considering Jess probably doesn't want me here either.
"I can go get you something. If you left, they could ask for you and I'm not part of the family so..." Just as I said that, a lady in blue scrubs walked toward us.
"Excuse me, are you Mary?" She asked. Mary nodded before looking to me.
"Just get me some water please. Thanks so much again Ashkii." She told me. I nodded walking towards the doors. Right when I got to the doors, I heard Mary let out a wail and my mind went to the worse.
I walked faster, out towards my car and jumped in, driving to the nearest gas station. The only thing I felt right now was immense pain. Everything was my fault so I was happy to be able to get away from the hospital and Mary, the constant reminders of what I did.
When I arrived, I went inside and walked straight to the drinks station. I grabbed a water and was about to go pay for it and leave, but stopped in my tracks when my phone started ringing. I took it out of my pocket and looked at the caller ID, seeing the name Jacob.
I know why he was calling me. Whenever I called him, it was because I wanted to go to a party or get drunk or something. Whenever he called me, he was asking to party with him. I answered and put the phone up to my ear before speaking.
"Hello?" I spoke.
"Hey man! You left prom early so I didn't have a chance to talk to you. Listen, a couple of the guys and I are going out, to the usual spot. You in?" He half yelled through the phone. Perfect timing Jacob.
"Yeah. Do I have to change into different clothes?"
"Nah man. We are all going out looking like gentlemen tonight." He answered. "Alright. Where we meeting up first?" I asked going to the counter and setting the water on it.
"Jordan's house in like, twenty minutes. Oh, and buy a pack of smokes if you are planning on smoking tonight. I'm not sharing anymore." He chuckled and I laughed slightly before giving him a goodbye and hanging up.
"One pack with this please."
