Long ago two races ruled over the earth, Monsters and Humans. One day war broke out between the two races. The humans attacked the monsters abruptly and mercilessly out of fear. Their only weakness was having their Soul absorbed.
Monsters were to weak to put up a fight. Countless of Monsters were massacred with no human souls taken. After a while the Monsters has no choice but to surrender. The Humans gathered their five best magicians and sealed the Monsters under Mount Ebott with a magic spell.

Aftermath
After the war the Monsters retreated to the deepest part of underground making their capital a place called "New Home". The Monsters blamed most of their problems on the humans and despised them. However Asgore decided the humans weren't worth it. Everyone agreed with him except for one...W.D Gaster.
Gaster didn't agree with the king at all and he knew deep inside all of the other monsters didn't either. Even though Gaster didn't agree with the decision he couldn't do much about it because of their situation. A few years past and 7 humans fell to the underground all at once. Coincidentally it was just enough to break the barrier.
Like expected Gaster tried to convince Asgore to kill the children and break the barrier. As always Asgore rejected the proposal. Months went on with the 7 humans living with Asgore, Toriel and Asriel. The more the humans were down there the more hate consumed Gasters soul.
One day he attacked and killed the King and Queen forcing all the monsters to bow down to him. His first act as King was to confiscate all the monster children from their parents including his own children, taking them away from his wife.
The human children were locked in jars in Gasters thrown room while the monster children were put through hard training and were subject to cruel experiments. His plan was to make sure the next generation of monsters would be strong enough to defeat the humans and when the day arrives that he thinks they are strong enough he the human children locked in the jars will be slaughtered then their souls will be used to break the barrier.
A few years into his training project something terrible happened. Asriel had escaped along with the human Chara. He didn't really care about Asriel but the seventh soul was vital for it to work. After a while of searching all that was left of the two was dust and a shattered determination soul.
After the incident Gaster got stricter. Nobody was aloud in or out of the training facility unless they were ordered to. He put tracking and shock collars on the children's ankles, neck and arms. If a child wondered to far from the cite they would be automatically shocked and if they weren't motivated they would be shocked.
One day a human fell. Gaster saw this as an opportunity to finally get a replacement 7th soul. He knew his students were strong but he wanted to make extra precision's. To do this he sent out 6 of his strongest students to split up and hunt down the human. Undyn, Sans, Mettaton, Muffet, Papyrus and Alphys. He knew the children would not fail and just to motivate them a little more he told them that the first two to capture the human would be rewarded with a prize which was freedom.
