Chapter 1: Intro

Professor Elvin Gadd sat calmly in his lab, working on his research, when suddenly, a green ghost appeared behind him, sneaking closer and closer to him. Sensing the ghost behind him, E. Gadd turned around to look at the ghost. The ghost laughed and flew away toward his friends who were cleaning and organizing the Lab. Outside, hovering over Evershade Valley, was the Dark Moon, an item capable to control the ghosts of the valley and keep them calm. Suddenly, a large Boo, with a glowing black crown hovered up next to the Dark Moon. He cackled and shot a beam at it from his crown. The Dark Moon shattered, spreading the pieces all over Evershade Valley, causing a black fog to envelope the entire valley. Back in the Lab, the ghosts snapped, going into rage mode, tearing pages out of books and knocking E. Gadd's inventions over. E. Gadd ran from the Gloomy Manor, into the safety of his Bunker. Meanwhile, far away, Luigi sat sleeping in his chair at home, when suddenly, he was startled awake as the TV flicked on, showing only static. Scared, Luigi walked up to turn the TV off. Just as his hand was about to touch the switch, the image of Professor E. Gadd appeared on the screen. "Luigi!" Startled, Luigi fell onto the ground and backed into his chair. "I need your help sonny! The ghosts have gone hostile!" He noticed Luigi on the floor, "Ah, what are you doing on the floor sonny?" Not really caring, he continued speaking, "No matter. I'm preparing the Pixelator." Suddenly the screen began to glow green as E. Gadd's voice was heard. "Here we gooo!" Luigi tried to run, but it was useless. He was split into many pixels and pulled into the TV.

In E. Gadd's Bunker, a red camera mounted on the wall twitched and spit out a bunch of pixels, which came together to form Luigi's body, dumping him on the trapdoor in front of E. Gadd. "Greetings Luigi!" Gadd called out cheerfully, bouncing in his chair. "I knew our paths would cross again." Luigi looked up at his old friend, knees shaking, still terrified from his encounter in his house. "You seem a bit tense, son. Relax! We're perfectly safe here in this impenetrable Bunker." Luigi took a second to look around the room where he now found himself. The room was downright covered with screens and monitors everywhere, and about the only non electric thing in the room was a water cooler behind E. Gadd, with the water rendered undrinkable, due to it being the current habitat of a small angelfish. "Anyhoo, it's been too long, my boy! What have you been up to? I imagine you've been off adventuring with that daredevil brother of yours." Luigi gave a slight sigh as his friend continued speaking. "Me? Oh, I've just been continuing my research on paranormal happenings and whatnot. In fact, after our last adventure, I became somewhat of an authority in the field!" Luigi rolled his eyes, thinking back to when he first met E. Gadd, who was struggling to catch a Golden Ghost in the mansion created by King Boo. For a brief moment, Luigi thought about King Boo, hoping he hadn't escaped somehow. "But enough about that. Let me fill you in on our ghostly predicament. See that on the screen?" He motioned to one of the many monitors in the Bunker, this one sporting the silhouette of a purple moon. "That there is the Dark Moon. It's a mysterious celestial body that has a pacifying effect on all of the ghosts in Evershade Valley. When I heard about it, I jumped at the rare chance to study ghosts in a peaceful environment. It was incredible, my boy! I was doing some of the best research of my long and storied career!" Luigi put two and two together, realizing that somehow, the Dark Moon had vanished, and it was Luigi's job to find it. "That is, until something snapped inside the ghosts, and the suddenly got all hostile! It got so bad, I had to escape from the Gloomy Manor and hide here, where the ghosts can't find me. Of course, I'm not one to sit around and twiddle my thumbs. I wanted to know why the ghosts freaked out. So I settled in and did some research to figure out what had happened." Luigi braced himself for the worst. "That's when I discovered something truly astonishing: the Dark Moon had vanished from the sky!" Luigi mentally facepalmed as E. Gadd continued. "And on top of that, the whole of Evershade Valley had become enveloped in an eerie fog. Now, I can't be sure, but I think the disappearance of the Dark Moon is what caused all of this mess. And what a mess it is! If we don't do something about it, the ghosts might leave this valley and terrorize the world beyond! Worse still, my research will go to waste! We can't let that happen, my boy! Now, I've god good news, and I've got bad news. Wait here." E. Gadd turned around for a second, and pulled out a piece of purple crystal, that seemed to be charged with a strange energy. "The good news is that I found a fragment of the Dark Moon nearby! But the bad news is that I found a fragment of the Dark Moon nearby, meaning the thing's broken. And this Dark Moon piece seems to be corrupted by some sort of energy... I reckon it's a disruptive energy that suppressed the Dark Moon's ability to pacify ghosts! But lucky for us, I've got inventions for all kinda of situations! Stand back sonny!" He pressed a button on his chair, and a machine that looked strangely like a record player appeared from the floor. He put the piece in the center of the machine, and four brushed sprouted out and started to clean the piece, removing the sparking energy and restoring the soft glow of the Dark Moon piece. A loud whooshing noise was heard outside of the Bunker. "Heh heh! I've done it Luigi! it seems to have regained it's original power! And did you hear that whooshing noise outside? Let me check my instruments... Criminy! All the fog around this Bunker...is gone! Quick! Let's take a look at the map of Evershade Valley!" A large red monitor lowered from the ceiling, and an image of the Gloomy Manor popped up, not far from  the Bunker. "Luigi, do you know what this means? We should be able to reach the Gloomy Manor now! But more importantly, it means that restoring the Dark Moon will solve all our problems! If we find all the Dark Moon pieces, the fog in the valley will vanish, and the ghosts will return to normal. But until then, all those ghosts will need to be contained. That's where you come in, Luigi." Luigi gave a nervous shake of his head, knowing what was about to come. "Why, you're the best ghost wrangler I know, son! Coincidentally, you're also the only ghost wrangler I know... So, what do you say, young feller? Will you help me capture the ghosts and restore the Dark Moon? Ho ho! Of course you will! It'll be just like old times!" Resigned to his fate, Luigi sighed and looked at the monitor above him, ready for E. Gadd to start briefing him.

A/N: Hey guys, I know it's been a LONG time since I uploaded anything, and this technically isn't even anything new. I just read back through what this sad excuse for a chapter was (for those reading this in the future, the original version of this only covered up to Luigi getting sucked into his tv, and had a couple of errors), so I decided to spruce things up a bit and cover the rest of the intro. Sorry if this was a little boring since the intro is mostly dialogue, but I tried to add a few Luigi moments in there between the text walls (Luigi will be mostly mute for this story, so I'm just gonna have him try to express his emotions) and in future parts, which will be tackled on a mission-by-mission basis, will have actual gameplay, and thus I can make some interpretations. For now, thank you all for reading this, and I hope you have a fantastic day. Piece out!
