When She Cries

"You may now kiss the bride. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. De Silva."

I looked straight into her eyes like I always do. It's as if I was seeing right through her soul whenever I do that.

At that moment, I can see and feel nothing but love.

Or so I thought.

"I love you, always and forever."

That's the last words that I uttered until I sealed our marriage with a kiss.

A tear fell from her eye, tears of joy, I assume.

Or maybe they weren't because of happiness.

She has changed a lot. But those changes did not make me love her less, for I have sworn to accept her flaws.

"Ah wala 'to.

I swore to accept her and all of her. And I did, but I turned a blind eye.

Patago.

Palihim.

I've tried to ask her, several times, but she always refuses to talk about her problem.

She wouldn't want me to bother myself with it so I didn't.

Although it hurts to see her crying.

One night, I thought I finally had the answer to my questions. I saw her crying, again, but she was holding a piece of paper in her hands while doing so.

It was a picture, of her with another girl who definitely looked like her.

"She's the black sheep of the family? I've never seen her for years. Miss na miss ko na siya," she teared up again, but this time, she was leaning on my shoulder.

'Yon lang ang nalaman ko tungkol sa kakambal niya, na cinast out to sa family nila. Not until I saw her grave.

At wala man lang akong kaalam-alam doon.

It must have broken her heart, so much.
