"Yes mom, It's me!" Suguha replied.
"Oh honey! How are you?" The faraway voice asked.
Kirito recognized the voice as his aunt and adoptive mother. The woman that had raised for majority of his life, and had pushed him to take the job in modeling, something he would never regret doing.
Tears formed a little at the corner of Kirito's eyes. Meanwhile, Aunt Midori, who was just finished making a cup of tea, went to go and greet Suguha.
"So tell me." Aunt Midori started while taking a sip of the hot blend she'd made. "How was sch-"
SMASH!!
She'd dropped her prized China mug and it broke against the floor. But that wasn't what was on her mind. What she was paying attention to was the tall figure beside Suguha.
At first, she thought Sugu had brought a boyfriend home. But she recognized the black hair and eyes filled with tears, not to mention the smile that seemed all too familiar thatvtold her this person was someone she loved with all her heart, and missed dearly.
"Oh Kiritoo!!" Midori started, making her way towards him. She wrapped him a hug and tears streamed down her face.
'Hi Mum... I'm back." Kirito's voice cracked under the intense emotions swirling in his mind.
They embraced for sometime, both crying their eyes out. Sugu though, who was suffering from Couldn't-Give-A-Shit Syndrome ignored them and went to the kitchen to get a brush and sweep the sharp ceramic pieces on the floor.
Kirito and Midori separated from their tight embrace. Kirito straightened his back to its former height with a small crack.
"Look at you!" Aunt Midori started. "You're so big and tall now!"
Kirito smiled shyly and agreed with an awkward 'Yeah'. It was one thing to receive compliments from fans and other models, but receiving one from his Mother made him happy inside.
"I'm so happy to see you!" Aunt Midori gushed. "Last time I saw you, you were barely 14 years old. And now you're 17, making big decisions now!"
"Ahh there's so much to catch up on, but today must have been very tiring."
"Yeah it was." Kirito agreed. "My flight landed early morning at around 6am. Then it took us 2 hours to get from the airport to the school in Nishitokyo. I haven't slept in quite some time."
"Oh you must be very tired then! Don't worry, we still kept your room in perfect condition," Midori fawned over Kirito. "You should go and see it right now."
"Okay!" Kirito smiled a dazzling smile and carried his schoolbag and mini suitcase up the stairs. He'd had the suitcase delivered to the school reception sometime during the school day, and he picked it up before going to find Sugu.
He stopped at the top of the landing where Suguha was giving him a mocking smile.
"Look who's a mommy's boy." She teased.
"Oh shut up!" He said and walked past her to get to his room at the end of the hallway, the key was still in the door. He took a deep breath and turned the key. The door slid open, revealing a pitch black room.
Kirito reached for the light switch, partially surprised that he still remembered where it was.
The lights flickered on, and the room he'd left behind came into view. Its walls were pitch black. Black curtains and a black closet.
There was a dark heartwood desk at the far left of his room. On top of it was the PC that he used to play VR games on. He wasn't sure if it was still working, hut he would have to check that later. Right now, the first thing on his mind was sleep.
Kirito dropped his schoolbag and suitcase on the floor as he used his leg to close the door shut behind him.
He barely managed to loosen his tie and shrug out if the school jumper and trousers before flopping onto the bed. The jetlag from the plane flight, the boredom of school's classes, and the marathon he'd run on his way home hit Kirito heavy.
A wave of lethargy washed over him. He accepted it with open arms, and fell asleep.
A/N: Chapter's kinda short. Sorry
