Autumn Changes

It was 3:00 in the morning and I couldn't sleep. I listened to the fan roar in my small studio apartment and looked up at the ceiling. It was Sunday, the beginning of the new week. My name is Elizabeth James and I just moved to New York to start my career. You see I just graduated from nursing school and took a job up in the city. Why must you ask? Well lets just say I wanted to get as far away from my hometown as I possibly could.

When I finished school I loaded up my dog, Bella, and I into my jeep and left. I never looked back. You are probably wondering about where my parents are. The truth is they died when I was little so I lived with my grandmother growing up. My grandmother ended up passing away while I was in nursing school so that really left me with no reason to stay where I was. I decided I needed a change of scenery and I always wanted to visit New York.

A position opened up at a hospital and I jumped at the opportunity to take it. I didn't have anywhere to live and I was pretty much leaving everything I knew. I was lucky enough to find a studio apartment about three blocks from work on such short notice. My move up to the city was September 20th and I've been here for about two weeks. Why my body decided to be up at the ass crack of dawn when I should be getting sleep to start my first shift in the morning, I have no clue. God is my body going to hate me for this. I couldn't figure out why I was awake so I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I'm in a city I've never been to before and my dog is my only family with me.

Autumn seems to be the time for changes and maybe this is the change I really needed. A new look and chapter on life. Start fresh and not worry about what other people think about me. Create new friends and build my own little family along the way. I can only hope that this is what I was suppose to do. By the time this all went through my thought process I looked and it was 3:30 in the morning...I took a deep breathe and forced myself to go to sleep. Only tomorrow knew what it held.
